ANOMALITH — everything we know

ANOMALITH is a single-player survival third-person shooter from FURYU Corporation, set in Japan and steeped in the atmosphere of liminal spaces and Showa-era retro aesthetics. Seventeen-year-old Reona Minazuki loses her best friend when a shopping mall turns into an Anomaly Zone, becomes a Diver for the government-backed Anomaly Zone Countermeasures Office, and goes back in to look for her. The loop is Dive, Retrieve, Return: manage your ammunition, engage the creatures called Anomalies, and carefully select what to carry out. It arrives 28 October 2026 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC — 29 October in Japan, where FURYU counts the date. Here is everything confirmed so far, and what is still open.

The free demo has been available since August and the full game lands on 28 October. Our verdict goes here once we’ve played the finished game; until then this page carries no score.
4 September 2026 · Trailer
System Trailer, and the price turns up on a storefront
FURYU released a System Trailer on 4 September at 11:05 UTC, in English and Japanese versions posted seconds apart on its official channel. The description repeats the date without moving it, verbatim: “Coming October 29, 2026 (JST)”, with the platform line “PlayStation®5 / Nintendo Switch™ 2 / Steam®”. Separately, the price is now visible on a storefront rather than only in FURYU’s announcement: the US Nintendo eShop lists ANOMALITH at $49.99 with a release of 10/28/26. That is the same date, not an earlier one — Steam’s stored unlock is 28 October 2026 at 15:00 UTC, which is midnight on 29 October in Japan. The $69.99 Digital Deluxe price still comes from the announcement only. One detail new on the official page: the PS5 Digital Deluxe pre-order carries 48-hour early access, which is not listed for Switch 2.
28 August 2026 · Physical edition
NIS America announces a physical PS5 Launch Edition
NIS America, publishing ANOMALITH physically in partnership with FuRyu, announced a PS5 “Launch Edition” for $59.99, reported 27–28 August 2026 (oprainfall, AnimeBlurayUK, both citing the same press release). It includes a bonus “Lost Property Control Organization” mission and a drone skin.
The press release names a physical release date of 12 November 2026 — not yet confirmed on PSN. The digital release stays where it was; Steam and press still disagree on it by one day (28 vs. 29 October 2026), unresolved.
30 August 2026 · Release date
The 28 vs. 29 October date isn’t a discrepancy — it’s a time zone
FURYU’s own site (cs.furyu.jp/anomalith/en) lists the release as “October 29, 2026 (JST)”. Steam and other Western storefronts show the date converted to local/UTC time, which lands on 28 October — the same kind of shift we’ve already seen with Aniimo’s UTC+8 launch.
The pre-order bonus deadline on FURYU’s site is spelled out the same way: 23:59 JST on 28 October 2026. Treat 29 October (JST) as the release date going forward; 28 October on Steam is the same moment, not an earlier one.
8 August 2026 · Demo
The demo loses its end date, and FURYU publishes a roadmap
The Steam demo was scheduled to close on 9 August. FURYU removed the end date entirely instead, so it now runs until release, and published what it plans to change along the way: keyboard and mouse improvements in late August, including mouse support across UI screens, expanded key bindings and sensitivity adjustment; a new higher difficulty plus demo-feedback fixes in late September; and in early October, further fixes plus demos for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The same week the game passed 70,000 Steam wishlists, roughly 20,000 of them added during the demo window alone.
4 August 2026 · Wishlists
60,000 wishlists
FURYU marked 60,000 Steam wishlists, six weeks after announcing 40,000. The publisher has posted every milestone itself rather than leaving the number to estimates.

FURYU asks its own followers why the game is suddenly big abroad
In an unusually direct post, the official account asked followers to explain the surge in interest outside Japan — noting that more than 26 percent of its audience was now American, and that almost all recent followers came from outside Japan. Wishlist geography had been Japan-dominated from the May reveal through July, and flipped during the demo window.
1 August 2026 · Demo
The free Steam demo goes live for Six One Demo Days
The demo launched as part of Six One Demo Days, built on closed-test feedback — a Story difficulty and an always-on dash setting were both added in response to it. It also carries a promotional tie-in with the Backrooms film: the blue-taped door from the movie appears inside the demo. FURYU has not said how long the demo is, how much of the game it covers, or whether progress carries into the full release.

FURYU publishes the closed-test results, then announces the demo
Roughly 75 percent of participants said they enjoyed the June closed test. On combat feel specifically, 9.9 percent said very good, 38.5 percent good and 20.8 percent average. And 18 percent of participants named any FURYU title among their favourite games — a number the publisher chose to publish about itself. The free demo was announced in the same breath.

The story trailer, and the first airing of the main theme
The story trailer introduces Reona, the Anomaly Zone Countermeasures Office and the Zones themselves, and carried the first public airing of Yuka Kitamura’s main theme. It is the trailer at the top of this page.
25 June 2026 · Wishlists
40,000 wishlists, marked with a short story
To mark 40,000 Steam wishlists, FURYU published a short story written by scenario writer Romeo Tanaka on the official X account — a journal found in the mountains, about a place on the edge of ordinary life slowly becoming a place you cannot return from. It is the first piece of ANOMALITH fiction outside the game itself.
19 – 28 June 2026 · Closed test
A closed demo test, recruited by lottery
FURYU ran a closed demo test for ten days, with participants selected by lottery through the official Discord. The results were published a month later.

The team responds to the “but it’s a FURYU game” reaction
Two days after the reveal, the team publicly acknowledged the scepticism that follows the publisher around in Japan, saying it was taking the criticism seriously. The closed test and the free demo followed within six weeks.
22 May 2026 · Pre-orders
Japanese pre-orders open, with an unusual collaboration attached
FURYU opened Japanese pre-orders and detailed the editions: a standard edition, a Digital Deluxe, and a limited physical box. The bonus is a tie-in with the Lost Property Control Organization — a fictional game, an art project by the illustrator Hoshi that KADOKAWA published as an art book in February 2025. There is also a free DLC campaign of seven backpacks styled as FURYU game boxes, covering Varlet, Reynatis, Crymachina, Monark, Caligula 2 and Crystar.
21 May 2026 · Reveal
Announced at the Six One Indie Showcase
ANOMALITH broke cover with a release date already attached — 29 October 2026 — for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. The staff list came with it: scenario by Romeo Tanaka, character design by MON, music by Yuka Kitamura. Japanese hands-on previews ran the same day, and singled out the parry in particular as the thing that feels best.

A Showa that never ended

The setting is the part everyone reacts to first. FURYU’s one-line description calls ANOMALITH a survival third-person shooter set in Japan, steeped in the atmosphere of liminal spaces and Showa-era retro aesthetics, in which a girl steps into a world writhing with anomalies to search for her missing friend. The producer put the premise plainly in a media briefing: the world is built on the question of what Japan would look like if the Showa period had continued past a Showa 64 that does not exist. The apartment complexes, the vending machines, the shopping arcades and the pastel signage are all period-correct — and then various anomalous phenomena take over.

The influences are stated outright rather than left to guesswork. The concept adopts SCP and liminal space, and some enemies deliberately carry traits resembling famous SCP entries. The Backrooms is named as the specific image source. And one line from that briefing says more about the design than any trailer does: the game is built so that you feel eeriness rather than fear. That is a narrower target than most horror games aim for, and it explains the whole aesthetic — wrongness rather than dread.

Reona, and the Countermeasures Office

Anomaly Zones suddenly appear without any sign. Reona Minazuki, seventeen, was visiting a mall with her best friend Arisa Kato when the building anomalized and the two were separated. Reona got out; Arisa did not, and her whereabouts have remained unknown ever since. In search of her missing friend, Reona becomes a Diver for the government-backed Anomaly Zone Countermeasures Office and returns to the Anomaly Zone of her own will. On that first Dive, as countless other Divers fall victim to the Zone, a strange power awakens within her. She is the sole survivor, and from there she heads deep into the abyss of Anomaly Zones.

The Office around her is small and specific. Yuiga Koda is the operator who provides precise support during Dives. Kyoka Sudo founded and runs it, having wandered an Anomaly Zone for an extended period and found her way out through her own strength. Imari Fushimi heads research and develops equipment using anomalous objects obtained from the Zones. May Hibiya, a former elite Diver, now oversees the storage and security of those objects. Kaede Mori is a mysterious person Reona meets on a Dive. An eighth character on the official roster is credited only as “Girl” — the young girl who temporarily joined Reona and Arisa when they became trapped in the anomalized mall, mute since the shock of seeing her parents killed by Anomalies. Her voice actor is deliberately withheld.

Dive, Retrieve, Return

FURYU names the loop itself. You go into an anomalous space, you fight, you collect, you extract; between runs you are at a base. The official framing for combat is explicit: while exploring Anomaly Zones, Reona has no choice but to engage strange creatures called Anomalies, and you manage your ammunition and carefully select what to retrieve as you make your way to extraction. That is extraction-style pressure applied to a linear-feeling horror game, and it is the reason the word survival is in the genre. Against hostile Anomalies, selecting the right weapon for the situation is what FURYU calls the key to survival.

Reona has exactly twelve distinct Anomalization Skills — the number is stated outright in FURYU’s announcement material. They are described as versatile offensive and defensive abilities used to control the flow of combat, and they include parries, homing projectiles and decoys; some exist specifically to reverse a situation where you have been surrounded. They support the gunfight rather than replacing it. Japanese hands-on coverage from the reveal singled out the parry as the thing that feels best, which is a notable thing for Japanese press to say about a FURYU action game.

Weapons, artifacts and appearance

Gun customization runs on swappable attachments — muzzles, stocks and so on — so a weapon type is a starting point rather than a fixed loadout, and artifacts utilize attachments in the same way. Artifacts retrieved from Anomaly Zones raise your stats, and anomalous objects retrieved from the Zones feed the workshop, where you use them to develop and upgrade weapons and gear.

Costumes are split across nine slots and do affect stats. But outward appearance can be changed without affecting stats, which as FURYU puts it makes it possible to go on Dives in your favorite fashion — the cosmetic layer and the stat layer are deliberately decoupled.

The date, and why two of them are circulating

FURYU’s own materials say 29 October 2026 (JST). Steam and Nintendo of Europe both display 28 October 2026, which is the same moment expressed west of Japan. Steam’s own early-purchase-bonus fine print gives it away: the bonus window runs from October 29 to November 11, labelled JST. There has been no delay and no staggered regional release — just a storefront showing you your own calendar. No release time of day has been announced anywhere.

Editions, and what is in them

In the West the digital release comes first, with NIS America publishing a physical PS5 Launch Edition on 12 November 2026. The Digital Deluxe adds an 80-page digital art book, a select mini-soundtrack, an “Armed Schoolgirl” outfit triple combo, three weapons — a semi-automatic sniper rifle, a double-barreled shotgun and a prototype handgun — and a consumable item set called the Anomaly Zone Countermeasures Office Set. Japan additionally gets a limited physical box, and the Switch 2 physical release ships on a game-key card rather than a full cartridge.

Pre-order bonuses differ by platform, which is worth reading twice if you care about cosmetics. PlayStation 5 pre-orders get a blue Causal Punk outfit and Diver Set A; Switch 2 pre-orders get a red Causal Punk outfit and Diver Set B. The PS5 Digital Deluxe listing additionally carries 48 hours of early access; the Switch 2 Deluxe listing does not, and neither does Steam. On Steam the equivalent is an early-purchase bonus running 29 October to 11 November JST: the collaboration side mission, a costume set, a probe skin and a Development Materials Set. FURYU adds one line worth reading before you rush a pre-order — these bonuses may become available separately at a later date.

A collaboration with a game that does not exist

The pre-order and early-purchase bonus is a tie-in with the Lost Property Control Organization, and it is the strangest thing on this page. It is not another FURYU game — it is a fictional one, an art project by the Japanese illustrator Hoshi, who spent years posting illustrations of a horror game that was never made. KADOKAWA collected them in February 2025 as an art book laid out like a strategy guide for a title with no code behind it. So a real game is collaborating with an imaginary one. The tie-in adds a side mission called Contradictory Otherworld Response, accepted from the board in the Workshop once side missions unlock, plus a costume set and a probe skin. The collaboration is confirmed by FURYU and Steam; the attribution to Hoshi comes from KADOKAWA and Japanese press rather than from a FURYU statement.

Who is making it

Scenario is by Romeo Tanaka, credited by Japanese coverage with Stella of the End, CROSS†CHANNEL and Humanity Has Declined. Character design is by MON; Japanese sources describe the work — delicate linework applied to malformed shapes — rather than listing prior credits, while FURYU’s English press materials attribute NisiOisin’s Legends series. Music is by Yuka Kitamura, credited by Japanese outlets with Dark Souls III and Elden Ring, with FURYU’s English press pack adding Sekiro, Bloodborne and Witch Hat Atelier. The producer is Gai Kidokoro.

On the development side there is an open question worth stating plainly: the Steam page lists FURYU CORPORATION as both developer and publisher, while press coverage and Wikidata both credit Winning Entertainment Group, formerly Natsume Atari, as developer. Neither has been corrected, so both are reported here.

One thing to know before you buy

Full voice acting is Japanese only. English, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese are subtitle-and-interface languages. This is not hidden — it is on the Steam language table — but no store page puts it in front of you, and for a story-driven game with a named voice cast it is the single most decision-relevant fact on this page.

Locked in vs still open

The short version of where things stand — what FURYU has committed to, and what it has left unsaid.

Locked in
  • Release 28 October 2026 (29 October JST)
  • PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, PC via Steam
  • Single-player only, Japanese full voice
  • Twelve Anomalization Skills, nine costume slots
  • Free Steam demo until release; console demos in early October
Not confirmed yet
  • Any European price
  • Any Xbox version
  • Demo length, scope, or save carry-over
  • Post-launch content, DLC plans or a season pass
  • Whether ANOMALITH appears at Tokyo Game Show 2026

What to watch before launch

Three things will tell you whether this holds up. The console demos in early October are the first real test of how the game runs on Switch 2, the platform with the most to prove and the least visible footage. The late-September high-difficulty patch will show whether the combat has the depth to justify the extraction pressure, since combat feel was the soft spot in the closed test. And Tokyo Game Show, from 17 to 21 September, is the last window for a meaningful reveal before a game that has quadrupled its wishlist count in ten weeks has to deliver — though FURYU has not published a lineup, so an appearance is an expectation, not a fact.
