ANOMALITH: gameplay, demo and release details

You enter an Anomaly Zone with a gun, a limited supply of ammunition and a reason to come back alive. ANOMALITH is a single-player survival third-person shooter: fight through distorted Japanese streets and buildings, choose what to carry out, then use your finds to improve your next loadout. Reona Minazuki is searching for her missing friend, and the same anomalies that took her have given Reona powers of her own.

Anomaly Zones: a Showa era that never ended

ANOMALITH takes place in an alternate Japan where the Showa era continued. The familiar places are the point: apartment blocks, shopping arcades and signs become unsettling when their ordinary rules stop working. FURYU shows an apartment complex with inverted gravity, a twisting corridor and a shopping street that keeps multiplying.

The producer has named SCP and liminal spaces as influences, with The Backrooms as a visual reference. He describes the intended feeling as eeriness rather than fear. That explains the premise; it does not establish how frightening you will find the finished game. Expect a shooter with horror framing and abnormal spaces to investigate.

Reona, Arisa and the Countermeasures Office

Seventeen-year-old Reona Minazuki and her friend Arisa Kato are separated when the mall they are visiting becomes an Anomaly Zone. Reona survives and joins the government-backed Anomaly Zone Countermeasures Office as a Diver so she can return to look for Arisa. During her first Dive, a strange power awakens as the other Divers are killed.

The Office gives the trips into those spaces a support structure. Yuiga Koda is Reona's operator; founder Kyoka Sudo has survived a Zone herself. Imari Fushimi researches recovered anomalous objects and develops equipment, while former Diver May Hibiya handles security. Reona also encounters the mysterious Kaede Mori. The official roster includes a girl who was trapped in the mall with Reona and Arisa; her identity is still withheld.

Combat and Dives: what you actually control

You control Reona in real-time, third-person gunfights. The practical question is which weapon and ability suit the enemy in front of you, and how much ammunition you can afford to spend before reaching extraction. Exploration, combat and retrieving useful objects belong to the same Dive. This is a single-player game, with no announced co-op or competitive mode.

Reona has twelve Anomalization Skills alongside her firearms. FURYU's examples include a parry, homing attacks and a decoy: defensive and offensive tools that can change a bad encounter rather than simply adding another gun. Choosing a skill and a weapon is part of managing the fight. The demo is the useful test of whether their timing and gun handling suit you; I have not reviewed the finished game.

Gun customization, artifacts and outfit stats

Attachments let you change your firearms for different combat styles. You also equip Artifacts recovered from Anomaly Zones to raise your stats. Back at base, anomalous objects become materials for developing and upgrading weapons and gear. What you choose to retrieve therefore feeds into how you prepare for later Dives.

Outfits are divided into nine parts and can affect Reona's stats. Appearance can also be changed without changing those stats, so the visual outfit and the equipment benefits are separate choices. The producer's content figures include at least 70 gun attachments and at least 300 outfit and equipment parts, including items obtained after finishing the game.

Beyond the demo: story, side missions and Dive Reports

The producer's October letter describes the demo as approximately 10% of the full game and estimates at least 30 hours for the main story, side missions and Dive Reports together. That is a combined-content estimate from FURYU, not a measured main-story length or my own playtime.

Defeating Anomalies unlocks Dive Reports about them. Side missions explore characters' backgrounds and relationships. Those give you reasons to investigate beyond the immediate search for Arisa, but the announced figures do not tell you how much repetition there is or how the late game performs.

Release date: 28 October or 29 October?

Steam lists 28 October 2026 and now offers the full PC game for purchase. FURYU's official site gives the digital release as 29 October 2026 in Japan (JST). Use the date and availability on your own platform's regional store; the different calendar labels are not evidence of a new delay.

The announced platforms are PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. Digital and physical dates are separate: NIS America's UK store lists the PS5 Launch Edition for 12 November, while FURYU lists Japanese physical copies for 13 November (JST). No Xbox version is listed on the current official site.

Standard, Digital Deluxe and physical editions

The standard edition contains the base game. Digital Deluxe adds an 80-page digital art book, a select mini-soundtrack, the Armed Schoolgirl outfit variants, three weapons and a consumable set. The weapons are a semi-automatic sniper rifle, double-barreled shotgun and prototype handgun. Check the edition on your chosen store before paying for extras.

The NIS America physical PS5 Launch Edition has its own listed DLC contents; do not assume that every physical or digital edition contains the same bonuses. Japan also has a limited physical box, and the Japanese Switch 2 physical edition uses a game-key card. Prices, discounts and bonus eligibility vary by platform and region. The old PS5 Deluxe 48-hour early-access offer was a pre-order benefit.

The Lost Property Control Organization collaboration

The collaboration began with a fictional game: illustrator Hoshi's Lost Property Control Organization, an art project collected by KADOKAWA as a strategy-guide-style book. ANOMALITH turns that connection into playable bonus content.

Its side mission, Contradictory Otherworld Response, becomes available from the Workshop board after side missions unlock. Completing it lets you claim the collaboration costume and probe skin. Steam lists the set separately as free DLC and also describes an early-purchase bonus window through 11 November (JST). Check the current listing for eligibility. A separate Peripeteia collaboration was announced on 19 October; the Steam store now lists a bundle, which does not by itself confirm an in-game crossover mission.

Who is making ANOMALITH?

Steam credits FURYU CORPORATION and Winning Entertainment Group Inc. as developers, with FURYU publishing the digital game. The named creative leads are Romeo Tanaka on scenario, MON on character design and Yuka Kitamura on music. Gai Kidokoro is the producer; the official video interviews also introduce director Yu Terada and game designer Takara Okamoto.

Tanaka's earlier work includes CROSS†CHANNEL and Stella of the End. Kitamura is known for music in FromSoftware games including Dark Souls III and Elden Ring. Those credits give context for the story and soundtrack; they are not a substitute for judging ANOMALITH's combat. The official interviews below are a direct way to hear how the team describes its work.

English text, Japanese voice acting

Steam lists Japanese full voice acting, with English, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese interface and subtitles. English text does not mean an English dub. If reading dialogue during a story-heavy shooter affects your choice, check the language table before buying.

The US PS5 demo also lists English and Japanese screen languages. Language support can differ between products and regions, so use your own platform's listing rather than treating the Steam table as a promise for every edition.

Updates

28 October 2026 · Steam release
The full game is on sale on Steam
The official Steam store now shows ANOMALITH as released, with Buy and Add to Cart rather than a future unlock. The demo remains listed. This confirms the PC storefront offer, not the download or launch state of every regional console version. FURYU dates the Japanese release 29 October (JST).
22 October 2026 · Producer's letter
The producer sets out the full game's scope
FURYU estimates at least 30 hours to experience the main story, side missions and Dive Reports together. Its producer says the demo covers approximately 10% of the full game, with at least 70 gun attachments and 300 outfit and equipment parts to discover. These are the producer's estimates and content counts, not my measured playtime. Official producer's letter.
19 October 2026 · Collaboration
Peripeteia collaboration announced for release
FURYU announced a Peripeteia collaboration timed to ANOMALITH’s release. At that announcement, content, price and platform details were still unspecified. The same post reports more than 120,000 Steam wishlists; that is FURYU’s figure, not sales. Official announcement.
19 October 2026 · Demo
The Steam demo joins the final pre-release event
FURYU announced ANOMALITH’s participation in Steam Next Fest with its current demo. The October 7 demo update added one developable Armed Schoolgirl outfit after clearing it, plus bug fixes. This is demo access, not the full release.
7 October 2026 · PS5 demo
Try the opening, but your save will not carry over
The US and Croatian EU PlayStation stores list a free PS5 demo released October 7. It covers the opening section and cannot transfer saves to the full game. Regional Switch 2 demo availability remains unverified here.
6 October 2026 · Streaming
Demo footage is allowed; full-game footage waits for release
FURYU’s posting guidelines allow the entire demo and standard platform monetization. Full-game footage, including the ending, is allowed only after the official release date and time in your region. Add your own commentary or analysis; standalone cutscene or music uploads are excluded.
4 September 2026 · Trailer
System Trailer, and the price turns up on a storefront
FURYU released a System Trailer on 4 September at 11:05 UTC, in English and Japanese versions posted seconds apart on its official channel. The description repeats the date without moving it, verbatim: “Coming October 29, 2026 (JST)”, with the platform line “PlayStation®5 / Nintendo Switch™ 2 / Steam®”. Separately, the price is now visible on a storefront rather than only in FURYU’s announcement: the US Nintendo eShop lists ANOMALITH at $49.99 with a release of 10/28/26. That is the same date, not an earlier one. The storefront date differs from FURYU’s Japanese date; this historical entry does not establish a current regional unlock time. The $69.99 Digital Deluxe price was announcement-only at that check; the US PlayStation Store has since confirmed it. One detail new on the official page: the PS5 Digital Deluxe pre-order carries 48-hour early access, which is not listed for Switch 2.
30 August 2026 · Release date
The 28 vs. 29 October date isn’t a discrepancy — it’s a time zone
FURYU’s own site (cs.furyu.jp/anomalith/en) lists the release as “October 29, 2026 (JST)”. Steam and other Western storefronts show the date converted to local/UTC time, which lands on 28 October — the same kind of shift we’ve already seen with Aniimo’s UTC+8 launch.
The pre-order bonus deadline on FURYU’s site is spelled out the same way: 23:59 JST on 28 October 2026. Treat 29 October (JST) as the release date going forward; 28 October on Steam is the same moment, not an earlier one.
28 August 2026 · Physical edition
NIS America announces a physical PS5 Launch Edition
NIS America, publishing ANOMALITH physically in partnership with FuRyu, announced a PS5 “Launch Edition” for $59.99, reported 27–28 August 2026 (oprainfall, AnimeBlurayUK, both citing the same press release). It includes a bonus “Lost Property Control Organization” mission and a drone skin.
The physical PS5 Launch Edition is now listed for 12 November 2026 by NIS America’s own UK store. This is separate from the October digital launch. The old 28/29 October discrepancy is resolved: those are western and Japanese date displays, not two digital release dates.
8 August 2026 · Demo
The demo loses its end date, and FURYU publishes a roadmap
The Steam demo was scheduled to close on 9 August. FURYU removed the end date entirely instead, so it now runs until release, and published what it plans to change along the way: keyboard and mouse improvements in late August, including mouse support across UI screens, expanded key bindings and sensitivity adjustment; a new higher difficulty plus demo-feedback fixes in late September; and in early October, further fixes plus demos for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. The same week the game passed 70,000 Steam wishlists, roughly 20,000 of them added during the demo window alone.
4 August 2026 · Wishlists
60,000 wishlists
FURYU marked 60,000 Steam wishlists, six weeks after announcing 40,000. The publisher has posted every milestone itself rather than leaving the number to estimates.
2 August 2026 · Community
FURYU asks its own followers why the game is suddenly big abroad
In an unusually direct post, the official account asked followers to explain the surge in interest outside Japan — noting that more than 26 percent of its audience was now American, and that almost all recent followers came from outside Japan. Wishlist geography had been Japan-dominated from the May reveal through July, and flipped during the demo window.
1 August 2026 · Demo
The free Steam demo goes live for Six One Demo Days
The demo launched as part of Six One Demo Days, built on closed-test feedback — a Story difficulty and an always-on dash setting were both added in response to it. It also carries a promotional tie-in with the Backrooms film: the blue-taped door from the movie appears inside the demo. At that announcement, demo length, scope and save transfer were unspecified. The later PS5 listing confirms an opening-section demo with no save transfer; that does not establish the PC demo’s transfer rules.
31 July – 3 August 2026 · ChinaJoy
Playable at ChinaJoy 2026 in Shanghai
ANOMALITH was exhibited in playable form at ChinaJoy in Shanghai, its first hands-on showing outside Japan.
25 July 2026 · Closed test
FURYU publishes the closed-test results, then announces the demo
Roughly 75 percent of participants said they enjoyed the June closed test. On combat feel specifically, 9.9 percent said very good, 38.5 percent good and 20.8 percent average. And 18 percent of participants named any FURYU title among their favourite games — a number the publisher chose to publish about itself. The free demo was announced in the same breath.
30 June 2026 · Trailer
The story trailer, and the first airing of the main theme
The story trailer introduces Reona, the Anomaly Zone Countermeasures Office and the Zones themselves, and carried the first public airing of Yuka Kitamura’s main theme. It is the trailer at the top of this page.
25 June 2026 · Wishlists
40,000 wishlists, marked with a short story
To mark 40,000 Steam wishlists, FURYU published a short story written by scenario writer Romeo Tanaka on the official X account — a journal found in the mountains, about a place on the edge of ordinary life slowly becoming a place you cannot return from. It is the first piece of ANOMALITH fiction outside the game itself.
19 – 28 June 2026 · Closed test
A closed demo test, recruited by lottery
FURYU ran a closed demo test for ten days, with participants selected by lottery through the official Discord. The results were published a month later.
23 May 2026 · Community
The team responds to the “but it’s a FURYU game” reaction
Two days after the reveal, the team publicly acknowledged the scepticism that follows the publisher around in Japan, saying it was taking the criticism seriously. The closed test and the free demo followed within six weeks.
22 May 2026 · Pre-orders
Japanese pre-orders open, with an unusual collaboration attached
FURYU opened Japanese pre-orders and detailed the editions: a standard edition, a Digital Deluxe, and a limited physical box. The bonus is a tie-in with the Lost Property Control Organization — a fictional game, an art project by the illustrator Hoshi that KADOKAWA published as an art book in February 2025. There is also a free DLC campaign of seven backpacks styled as FURYU game boxes, covering Varlet, Reynatis, Crymachina, Monark, Caligula 2 and Crystar.
21 May 2026 · Reveal
Announced at the Six One Indie Showcase
ANOMALITH broke cover with a release date already attached — 29 October 2026 — for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. The staff list came with it: scenario by Romeo Tanaka, character design by MON, music by Yuka Kitamura. Japanese hands-on previews ran the same day, and singled out the parry in particular as the thing that feels best.

What to check before you buy

Try the free Steam demo or the PS5 opening demo before buying if the gun handling and skill timing are your deciding factors. The PS5 demo says its save will not carry over; PC save transfer and Switch 2 regional demo availability remain unverified here. I have not tested frame rate, Steam Deck compatibility or Switch 2 performance. Those are still checks to make for your own setup.

FAQ

When does ANOMALITH come out?

Steam lists ANOMALITH as released on 28 October 2026 and offers the full game for purchase. FURYU lists 29 October in Japan (JST). Check your chosen console storefront for its local availability; this page has verified the Steam offer, not every regional console unlock.

What platforms is ANOMALITH on?

PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. FURYU lists the Japanese digital release for 29 October 2026 (JST) and physical release for 13 November. NIS America UK lists its physical PS5 Launch Edition for 12 November. The Japanese Switch 2 physical edition uses a game-key card.

Is ANOMALITH coming to Xbox?

No Xbox version is listed on the current official site or Steam page. The announced platforms are PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

How much does ANOMALITH cost?

The US Steam store lists a $49.99 standard price and $69.99 Digital Deluxe price before temporary discounts. Prices and offers vary by country and platform; check your regional storefront for the current amount.

Is there an ANOMALITH demo?

Yes. The free Steam demo is downloadable now. The PS5 demo launched on 7 October 2026 in the checked US and Croatian EU stores, covers the opening section, and explicitly does not transfer saves to the full game. Demo playtime, PC save transfer and Switch 2 regional demo availability remain unverified here.

Does ANOMALITH have English voice acting?

No. Full voice acting is Japanese only. Steam lists English, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese interface and subtitles; the checked western PS5 demo lists English and Japanese screen languages. Check the language list for your platform and region.

What is in the ANOMALITH Digital Deluxe Edition?

FURYU lists the base game, an 80-page digital art book, a select mini-soundtrack, the Armed Schoolgirl outfit variants, three weapons and a consumable set. The PS5 Digital Deluxe pre-order advertised 48 hours of early access; that was a pre-release offer and is not a reason to assume a current purchase grants extra access. Check the contents of the edition on your own platform.

Who is making ANOMALITH?

Steam now credits FURYU CORPORATION and Winning Entertainment Group Inc. as developers. FURYU publishes it. Scenario is by Romeo Tanaka, character design by MON, and music by Yuka Kitamura.

Is ANOMALITH a horror game?

It is a survival third-person shooter with horror framing. The producer has said the design targets eeriness rather than fear, drawing openly on SCP and liminal-space aesthetics with The Backrooms named as the direct image source. Steam users tag it Survival Horror and Psychological Horror.

What is the Lost Property Control Organization collaboration?

The Lost Property Control Organization is a fictional game created by illustrator Hoshi as an art project and published by KADOKAWA as a strategy-guide-style art book. The ANOMALITH tie-in adds a side mission, costume set and probe skin. Steam now lists the collaboration set separately as free content, so check its current store listing rather than relying on an old pre-order window.
