Message From Aliens makes you learn the language before you can read the game
Start with alien arithmetic and build your own understanding of a strange writing system. Even the interface needs deciphering.
The first obstacle in Message From Aliens is reading what is in front of you. The interface uses alien symbols, and your own notes are the only human-language text you can rely on. Understanding the instructions is part of the puzzle.
Artless Games starts with a useful shared reference: arithmetic. Equations let you test what a symbol might mean before you tackle more complex messages. Recognising a pattern gives you something to check against the next page.
Learn the symbols through equations and context
The fictional logographic writing system contains more than a thousand characters. You do not have to translate every one of them to reach the ending, according to the developer. The larger body of text leaves room for players who want to keep decoding.
An alien-to-alien dictionary helps you work within the language as your understanding grows. Later material includes poetry, jokes and scientific concepts. The challenge shifts from recognising numbers to interpreting what a message is actually saying.

Your notes are part of the investigation
A familiar menu label cannot do the work for you here. Keeping track of a hypothesis and revising it when an equation disagrees is the central appeal. If you enjoy language-deciphering puzzles, that is a more useful expectation than treating the game as a conventional translated adventure.
The developer names Story of Your Life and Contact as inspirations. That connection concerns interpreting an unfamiliar signal and writing system, rather than a promise about the game’s narrative or your experience of it.
Release, demo and the November update
Message From Aliens is available on Steam for Windows, with a separate free demo. Steam lists 1 November 2026; the developer’s out-now post appeared on 2 November and explains that the publishing date had been set incorrectly. The announcement is not a precise unlock-time record.
A 3 November update corrects scientific text, unit conversions and a numerical-precision issue affecting Chapter 3. These are published patch notes, not a hands-on assessment of every puzzle. A macOS build was described as a future plan in the launch post; it is not confirmed as available here.
This introduction uses official descriptions and screenshots. It does not provide translations or puzzle solutions, and it is not a played review.
