Gumoss is the Grass/Ground Pal at No. 012 — a lump of tree sap that has decided to wear the forest floor as a hat. It is the first Pal most players meet that exists purely to keep everyone else fed, and 1.0 quietly turned it from a nice-to-have into one of the best early partner skills in the game.

Gumoss is common and it is close. It spawns across the Windswept Hills, the Sea Breeze Archipelago, Marsh Island, the Forgotten Island and the northeastern Bamboo Groves — day and night, no time gate.

There is also a level 11 Field Alpha Gumoss in the Sea Breeze Archipelago: south of the Sea Breeze Archipelago Church fast travel point and north of the Sea Breeze Archipelago Reef fast travel point. It is a fair first Alpha — slow, not very angry, and a good excuse to test whether your sphere stock is where it should be.

It also appears inside dungeons, and hatches from a Verdant Egg.

Base values before IVs, passives and condensing. 70/70/70 straight across is the statline of a Pal that is here to work, not to fight — and Gumoss is honest about it. Melee Attack 100, Shot Attack 70, Support 100, Stamina 100, Running Speed 300. It goes down easily and it is meant to.

Planting Lv 1

One job, and nothing else — which is the point, not a limitation. A Pal with a single suitability never wanders off mid-task. Assign Gumoss to a Berry Plantation and it plants berries, forever, without being pulled away by the Handiwork bench or a stray ore node. Pair it with a Watering Pal — Teafant one slot up the dex, or Pengullet — and the food problem is solved permanently.

Berry Seeds every time, a Gumoss Leaf about half the time. The seeds matter more than they look: they are what stocks the plantation the Pal is about to work on, so a handful of Gumoss bootstraps its own food loop.

Partner skill: Logging Assistance

This is the skill that got the biggest quiet buff in 1.0, and almost nobody is talking about it.

Before 1.0A flat +10% to +20% logging speed. A rounding error. You brought Gumoss for the Planting, not for this.
In 1.030–50% faster tree-cutting, and — the part that actually matters — 40–60% off the weight of every kind of wood.
Why weightEarly Palworld is not bottlenecked by how fast you fell a tree. It is bottlenecked by the walk home. Wood is heavy, your carry capacity is miserable, and a full trip is three trees. Halving the weight roughly doubles what you bring back per run.
StackingIt does not stack. One Gumoss is the whole benefit. A second is just another Planting body.

Pair it with Cattiva ten slots down the dex and the early carrying problem more or less dissolves: Cattiva raises the ceiling, Gumoss lowers the load.

The Flower form — No. 012B

There is a second Gumoss, and it is worth knowing about before you spend an evening breeding for it.

What changesIt wears a flower instead of leaf litter, sits at Paldeck No. 012B, and drops 3× Beautiful Flower on top of the usual Berry Seeds and Gumoss Leaf.
Rarity10 instead of 1, and it hatches from a Huge Verdant Egg rather than a Verdant one.
What doesn'tSame statline, same single Planting Lv 1, same partner skill. Nothing about it works harder.

It is a cosmetic rarity with a drop attached. Catch it because it looks better in the base, not because it does more.

The story of Gumoss

The Paldeck is unusually grim about this one: a strange Pal with a body resembling tree sap, which gradually loses strength if it has nothing to cover its body with — eventually rotting away.

So the leaves are not decoration. They are the reason it is still alive. Every Gumoss you meet is wearing whatever it could find, because the alternative is rotting in the open. Which recontextualises the Flower form somewhat: that one found something nice.

Day 3. Followed one for an hour. It stopped at every fallen branch, considered it, moved on. Picky, for something that dies without a hat.

Day 9. Put it on the Berry Plantation. It has not looked up since. The others wander. This one plants.

Day 14. Cut down half the ridge with it in the party and carried the whole lot home in one trip. I did not know that was possible. I am not going back.

Day 22. Found a Flower one. It knows.

While Gumoss is in your party it improves logging efficiency by 30–50% and cuts the weight of all wood types by 40–60%. It does not stack. This is a large buff over the pre-1.0 version, which was only +10–20% logging speed with no weight effect.

Is Gumoss good?

For a base, yes — it has Planting Lv 1 and nothing else, so it never abandons your Berry Plantation. For combat, no. 70/70/70 is a working statline, not a fighting one.

What's the difference between Gumoss and the Flower Gumoss?

The Flower form (No. 012B) is rarity 10 instead of 1, hatches from a Huge Verdant Egg, and drops 3× Beautiful Flower on top of the usual drops. Stats, work suitability and partner skill are identical.

Why did Gumoss's number change?

Palworld 1.0 re-sorted the entire Paldeck rather than appending to it. Gumoss moved from #013 to #012. Only #001–#004 kept their original numbers.

What does Gumoss drop?
