Which Pal are you?
Twelve questions on element, temperament and how you work. We score you against all 287 Pals in the Paldeck and hand back your closest match.
Every Pal in Palworld has an element and a job it is good at. So, arguably, do you. Twelve questions, scored against the real Paldeck — all 287 Pals, 1.0 and both DLCs included.
What this quiz actually does
You get matched to one of all 287 Pals in the current Paldeck. It is not a random generator and it is not eight boxes wearing a costume. Every Pal in Palworld carries two things that work as a personality on paper: an element — Neutral, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Ground, Dark or Dragon — and a set of Work Suitabilities like Kindling, Watering, Handiwork, Mining or Medicine Production. The twelve questions ask about the same traits in you: your temperament, your energy, whether you turn aggressive or calm under pressure, and which job you would actually take around a base camp. Your answers build an element profile and a work profile, those get scored against the real Paldeck, and the closest match wins. Same answers, same Pal — the result is deterministic, so a Pal you love is a Pal you can keep.
New to the game? Palworld is an open-world survival crafting and monster-taming game from Pocketpair, built out of exploration, crafting, base-building and survival mechanics. Pals are the creatures at the centre of it: you capture them with Pal Spheres, fight alongside them, and assign them to work — farming, mining, crafting, healing, hauling. That last part is the twist. Pals are not just companions, they are your workforce, which is why every Pal has a job as well as an element.
This page is written for both newcomers and players who have already sunk a hundred hours into a single base. You will find out how the matching works, what makes each Pal distinct, what the nine elements and twelve Work Suitabilities say about a Pal (and about you), and which Pals are worth chasing once you know your type. Because the match runs on real in-game attributes, your result doubles as a hint at the kind of Pal that suits how you would genuinely play — a base-building crafter, a combat mount, a healer, or a Dark-type night owl.
Finding your inner Pal
The honest reason a quiz like this works is that Palworld already sorts its creatures the way you would sort people. A Pal is not just a stat block with a face. It has a temperament, a job it is good at, and a role it takes in a fight — offense, defense, or quietly holding the base together while you explore.
So finding your inner Pal is less about picking a favourite and more about being honest in twelve answers. Do you charge in or de-escalate? Do you want to be out there to discover new places, or would you rather stay home, keep the food coming and the crafting bench busy? Palworld lets players focus on very different things — combat, exploration, or work management — and the Pal you land on tends to reflect which of those three you actually enjoy.
There is no wrong result, and there is no rigged common outcome waiting to be handed out. No single Pal takes more than a few percent of results.
Most Pals share two things: an element and a job
Most Pals in the game are defined by exactly two attributes, and once you see it you cannot unsee it. The first is the element. There are nine, and they read like temperaments. The second is Work Suitability — the job the Pal does at your base. That second one is the twist that makes Palworld more than a monster collector: Pals do not only fight, they work. Assign one to kindling or watering and it keeps going while you are away, so you come back to stockpiles waiting for you.
Alpha, Lucky and Legend Pals
A few Pals sit outside the pattern, and those are the ones people get attached to. Alpha Pals are large variants known as bosses — the oversized versions guarding an area or a dungeon. Lucky Pals are the shimmering rare spawns; the Lucky passive gives them Attack +15% and Work Speed +15%, which makes them a genuinely good find rather than just a shiny. And a handful of Pals carry the Legend passive: Attack +20%, Defense +20% and a movement bonus on top. Jetragon, Frostallion, Necromus and Paladius are the usual names there.
You catch all of them the same way — wear them down and throw a Pal Sphere. Every successful capture also hands you experience points, which is why catching widely is its own kind of progression rather than a side hobby.
What your element says about you
The nine elements are the closest thing Palworld has to a personality system. Element is also weighted a little heavier than work in the scoring, because it is the loudest part of a Pal’s identity.
Element personality types
| Element | The read |
|---|---|
| Neutral | Adaptable, easygoing, quietly reliable — the baseline everything else is measured against |
| Fire | Warm, driven, hard to ignore when it matters |
| Water | Calm on the surface, adaptable underneath, hard to knock off balance |
| Grass | Patient and nurturing — you grow things, and people, around you |
| Electric | Fast, high-voltage, a little chaotic in the best way |
| Ice | Cool, composed, precise, with an edge under the calm |
| Ground | Sturdy, and immovable once you have decided something |
| Dark | Sharp, mysterious, most alive after sundown |
| Dragon | Proud, ambitious, built for the big stage |
If you keep landing on Dark or Dragon, that is not a quirk of the scoring. Those are the elements the roster reserves for its loners and its legends.
What your Work Suitability says about you
Work Suitability is where the quiz stops being a personality test and starts being useful. There are twelve jobs, and each one is a decent read on how a person operates.
Work Suitability roles
| Work Suitability | The read | What it does in-game |
|---|---|---|
| Kindling | You bring the heat and get things moving | Furnaces, cooking, refining |
| Watering | You keep everyone watered and cared for | Farms and plantations |
| Planting | You plant slow and reap steady | Berry and wheat plots |
| Generating Electricity | You are the current that powers the operation | Power plants |
| Handiwork | Pure creativity — give you parts and you build something better | Crafting benches, the most universally useful job |
| Gathering | You wander, collect, and come back with something useful | Harvesting, ranch pickup |
| Lumbering | When it needs muscle, everyone looks at you | Logging camps |
| Mining | You put your head down and outlast the hard stuff | Ore and stone |
| Medicine Production | Healing is your thing — you are who people come to when they are hurting | Medicine benches |
| Cooling | Nothing rattles you | Refrigerators, egg incubators |
| Transporting | You carry the load and keep the team moving | Hauling to chests |
| Farming | You keep the pantry full | Ranches — eggs, wool, milk |
This is also the practical answer to “which Pal should I actually use”. The best base Pals in Palworld are the ones with a high level in the job you keep running short on. Handiwork and Transporting carry almost any camp. Kindling and Watering unblock production. Mining is what most players run out of first.
Best Pals by element and job
If the quiz pointed you at Fire, the best fire Pals lean Kindling. Electric points at Generating Electricity, and the best electric Pals are the ones that keep a power plant running without supervision. Ground and Dark tend to carry Mining and Lumbering. Grass and Water fill Planting, Watering and Medicine Production.
One high-level worker beats three level-1 ones, so treat your result as a nudge toward a role, not just a mascot. And if you want a specific Pal for a specific job, you do not have to wait to find one in the wild — you can breed for it, and 1.0 layers Awakening and Mutation on top to push a favourite further.
Can you get a legendary Pal?
Yes. Answer like a proud, power-chasing loner and the scoring will hand you one. Jetragon, Frostallion, Necromus, Paladius, Xenolord and Bellanoir are all in the pool, and they behave exactly as you would expect: Dragon and Dark, short on Work Suitabilities, built for offense rather than for keeping the farm alive. The strongest Pals in Palworld are rarely the most employable ones — which is a personality read in itself.
Answer like a steady team player and you will land somewhere friendlier. Probably somewhere far more useful, too.
How many Pals can you be matched with?
287 — every Pal in the Paldeck as of 1.0. That is the launch roster, the Sakurajima and Feybreak additions, the 72 Pals that arrived with 1.0 for the World Tree and the Sky Islands, and the variant forms like Eikthyrdeer Terra, Mossanda Lux and Frostallion Noct. One Pal, Astralym, sits out only because its data is not public yet.
The full list is what makes a result feel earned. You are not being sorted into one of eight boxes — you are being matched against the whole species roster. If you want to look up a specific Pal, where to find it and what it drops, the Paldex has the complete list.
What to do with your result
Copy your result and share it — the fun of a quiz like this is comparing what everyone else got, and the Palworld community on Reddit and Discord is a good place to find out whether anyone else got stuck with the same Pal as you. If you want more of this, you can join the mailing list by email and the next quizzes and guides land in your inbox.
I hope you get a Pal you actually like. If you get Depresso, that is between you and the algorithm.
Frequently asked questions
How many Pals are in Palworld?
287 as of 1.0. The update added 72 new Pals tied to the World Tree and the Sky Islands, on top of the launch roster and the Sakurajima and Feybreak additions. All of them are in the quiz pool, including variant forms like Eikthyrdeer Terra and Mossanda Lux. One Pal, Astralym, is held back only because its data is not public yet.
Is the quiz based on real Paldeck data?
Yes. Each Pal’s elements and Work Suitabilities come straight from the Paldeck, and the quiz matches the full element-plus-work fingerprint. That is why it can land on one specific Pal rather than a generic type.
Can I get a legendary Pal?
You can. Jetragon, Frostallion, Necromus, Paladius, Xenolord and Bellanoir are all reachable — you just have to answer like one of them.
Will I always get the same Pal?
Same answers, same Pal. The match is deterministic, not random. Change how you answer and the result moves, so retake it as often as you like.
What is the best Pal in Palworld?
It depends on the job. For a base, the most valuable Pals stack high Handiwork, Transporting and Mining — Anubis is the usual answer. For combat, the Legend-passive Pals win. There is no single best Pal, which is exactly why Work Suitability exists.
What is Palworld, in one line?
