A time-traveling adventure
From an age where dinosaurs roam to the far-flung future and alternate realms in between, you travel across fantastic and distinctive time periods and discover the threads that bind the ages. It’s an epic tale of interwoven fates and secrets that shaped civilizations — and you follow the threads of a sinister plot that traverses the tapestry of time, threatening the past, present and future alike.
Timeless turn-based combat
Battles are strategic, visually dynamic and turn-based. You weave together powerful attacks, bend time to your will, unravel enemies’ defenses, and unleash your party’s full potential through devastating team combos. It’s the kind of combo-driven, party-based combat that earned the game its Chrono Trigger comparisons, given a modern twist.
Heroes from across the ages
You assemble a party of charismatic, unique characters recruited from different eras. The framing is the ancient Order of the Time Knights: you restore that order and unite heroes from across epochs to defend the timeline from impending chaos and corruption. Each hero comes from a different point in history, so your party is a cross-section of the whole story.
Three party members have been revealed so far, each pulled from a different era: Luna, a Fire Mage apprentice from 1000 AD who wants to master time magic to save history; Rin, a 301-year-old kitsune infiltrator from 2400 AD who slips between human and fox forms and fights with twin katars; and Bo, a Guardian-class hero from 12 million BC — a dinosaur veterinarian by day and a warhammer-wielding strongman by night. More party members are yet to be detailed.
Retro charm meets modern visuals
Threads of Time steps into vibrant worlds powered by Unreal Engine 5, pairing them with lovingly hand-crafted 2D characters and the timeless charm of pixel art — a 2.5D look that captures the essence of your favourite retro RPGs, wrapped in a new and immersive adventure. It’s story-rich and lore-rich, leaning into an emotional, atmospheric tone.

Threads of Time is developed by Riyo Games, a Toronto studio, and published by Balor Games (part of Good Games Group). The game was first announced under Humble Games before moving to Balor Games; the current Steam listing and 2026 materials credit Balor Games as publisher.
