GW2 patch notes, July 14: what the balance update actually changes

The July 14 balance update is live — Build 203,989 — and like most GW2 patch notes it runs long. You don't need every line. Three changes carry this one: Bladesworn can finally move while it winds up, Deadeye's Silent Scope got reworked, and Elementalist quietly got a stack of its weapon kit buffed in PvE.

203,989
Build, live July 14
5 → 3
Deadeye malice threshold
2.0 → 3.0
Burning Speed coefficient (PvE)

2
Silent Scope reworked
Deadeye's free stealth-on-dodge is reined in.
3
Elementalist weapon buffs
Sword, hammer and spear hit harder in PvE.

Bladesworn: the stationary windup is gone

This is the headline. Straight from the notes:

Dragon Trigger: You can now move while channeling this skill. Your maximum movement speed is reduced while channeling.

Official GW2 update notes — July 14, 2026

The defining awkwardness of Bladesworn — rooting yourself in place to charge Dragon Slash and praying the boss didn't pick that second to move — is over. You shuffle at reduced speed instead of standing still, so you can charge on the way into a stack spot or walk out of an AoE without dumping your charge. Dragon Slash—Force and —Reach also let you move during the cast, and Dragon Slash—Boost is now ground-targeted. The traitline got reworked alongside it — Swift as the Wind is replaced by Sharp as the Wind, pushing a condition-damage identity — so if you shelved the spec because it felt like playing a turret, it's worth another look.

Deadeye: Silent Scope, reworked

The change everyone's arguing about. Verbatim:

Silent Scope: This trait has been reworked. This trait now grants precision while equipped. Additionally, when you perform a dodge roll, gain access to your stealth attack if your malice is above the threshold.

Official GW2 update notes — July 14, 2026

The in-game trait confirms it: precision passively, and a dodge only opens access to your stealth attack — and only once your malice is above the threshold (3, since Stolen Skills also dropped that bar from 5 to 3). The free stealth-on-dodge that let rifle Deadeye chain stealth attacks off a roll is gone. In practice you'll fire Death's Judgment far less freely and have to build malice first. It's a real cut to the spec's stealth uptime, not a sidegrade — which is why the reaction is split.

Elementalist and Weaver: a quiet weapon buff

No drama here, just numbers going up. The notes frame it plainly:

Our previous balance update left a few elementalist weapons dealing slightly less damage than we wanted in PvE, so this update brings additional adjustments to sword, hammer, and spear to bring them more in line with other options.

If you main sword, hammer or spear Ele in PvE, you hit harder with no rotation change. Weaver's Dual Attacks got a look too — Steam Surge's water field now lasts 4 seconds instead of 2. One honest note: this pass doesn't touch staff, and our Celestial Tempest build runs Dagger/Warhorn, so it's unaffected.

Engineer: babysit-able turrets, and a renamed trait

Two things worth knowing. First, turrets:

All Engineer Turret Skills: You can now overcharge turrets manually after the overcharge cooldown has elapsed. Turrets will still overcharge automatically when they are initially placed.

Official GW2 update notes — July 14, 2026

Turrets used to blow their overcharge on deploy and then force you into a detonate-and-replant dance to get it back. Now you re-trigger it on cooldown without redeploying. Niche, since turret builds are rare, but a clean win for the people who run them. Second, a rename that trips up wiki users: Autodefense Bomb Dispenser was reworked and renamed to Sapping Device, which now reads "Weaken enemies when you disable or immobilize them." If you look it up and the wiki has no page yet, that's the wiki lagging — the trait is live under ID 507. Trust the game, not the page.

Druid: Cultivated Synergy is a Grandmaster now

Cultivated Synergy: This trait has moved to the grandmaster tier.

Official GW2 update notes — July 14, 2026

In the game it now reads: "When you use a healing skill, heal around your pet and create a water field attached to them. When you combo a water field with a blast finisher, sprout a Lesser Seed of Life at the location." Bumping it to grandmaster puts it head-to-head with Lingering Light and Eclipse, so the water-field payoff now costs you your top-end healing or your offensive avatar line — a real choice instead of a free pick. Grace of the Land slid down to master to make room.

Also in this patch

Beyond the balance pass, Elementalist picked up two bug fixes: Volcano and Lesser Volcano were each applying their power coefficient twice, now corrected (Volcano was also retuned — 1.1 → 1.21 in PvE, 0.77 → 0.5 in WvW). On the open-world side, ArenaNet fixed the Wizard's Vault "Defeat Tequatl / Sparkfly Fen events" objective pointing at the wrong spot and cleaned up some low-resolution asura gate icons. There's also a returning Extra Life charity feature — an Extra Pets Guide NPC in Lion's Arch that hands out Chatoyant items and warps you to the 2025 pet locations. No system reworks or new content beyond that — a balance patch with a little housekeeping attached.

Does this change Crit Pick's builds?

Celestial Tempest

Dagger/Warhorn — the sword/hammer/spear buffs don't touch it.

Power Scrapper

Runs the Explosives line, but doesn't slot Sapping Device. No change.

Celestial Mechanist

Same story — Explosives line, but not that trait.

Sword / hammer / spear Ele

A straight PvE damage bump — no rotation change needed.

Full write-ups if you want the gear and templates: Celestial Tempest, Power Scrapper, and Celestial Mechanist. None need re-gearing for this patch.

What the community's saying

Early reaction was a mixed bag of delight and dread — a completely normal GW2 balance patch. The Druid reshuffle went over well, and the Bladesworn movement change is a broadly popular quality-of-life fix. The loud argument is Silent Scope, and both sides have a point: one camp is relieved that Deadeye's stealth uptime got reined in, since chained stealth attacks off a dodge have been miserable to play against; the other says the rework hollows out the rifle-and-dodge rhythm that made the spec feel like a Deadeye, and stings most in solo play where no team is feeding you malice. Elsewhere, Ele players mostly seem happy with the damage while quietly wishing the staff had been invited too.

GW2 July 14 patch notes, answered

What's the build number for the July 14, 2026 GW2 patch?

Build 203,989, live on July 14, 2026.

Can Bladesworn move during Dragon Trigger now?

Yes. You can move while channeling Dragon Trigger, at a reduced maximum movement speed. Dragon Slash—Force and —Reach also let you move during the cast.

Was Silent Scope nerfed or reworked?

Reworked. It now grants precision while equipped, and a dodge roll gives access to your stealth attack only when your malice is above the threshold (3). The old always-on stealth-on-dodge is gone.

Did Autodefense Bomb Dispenser get deleted?

No — it was reworked and renamed to Sapping Device, which weakens enemies you disable or immobilize. If the wiki has no page for it yet, that's the wiki lagging; the trait is live under ID 507.

Do these changes affect Crit Pick's builds?

Barely. The Ele buffs are PvE-only for sword, hammer and spear, and our Tempest runs dagger/warhorn. The Engineer trait rename doesn't touch the traits our Scrapper or Mechanist actually slot.
