GW2 Power Scrapper build guide
The engineer's most comfortable open-world all-rounder: Power Scrapper hits hard at melee, builds barrier from its own damage, and keeps near-permanent quickness with zero boon duration. It solos tough champions and still pulls its weight in zergs and meta events.
The GW2 Power Scrapper is the open world’s do-everything melee bruiser. You camp the Hammer, keep your own Quickness up by knocking things down, and refill barrier and health from the damage you deal — so you rarely need to dodge and almost never stop swinging. It solos tough content, holds its own in a zerg, and forgives mistakes. Bring it to grind champions and meta events, not to speed-clear trash.
Equipment
Berserker’s with a couple of Dragon’s pieces for a little extra Vitality, all under Superior Rune of the Scholar for flat damage while your health stays high — and this build keeps it high. Engineer wears medium armour, so the named Berserker set is Zojja’s. It is a pure power kit: no condition or boon duration to chase, because your boons come from your traits and your crowd control.
No weapon swap on Engineer. The Hammer is the whole weapon bar — five melee skills that block, leap, daze and whirl. Your “second set” is the Elite Mortar Kit, a ranged option you drop into when you cannot stand in melee. Sigils of Force and Impact both reward you for landing hits, which you are doing constantly.
Alternativesrune, relic
The build is forgiving — here is what is safe to swap and why.
How the build works
One loop powers everything: disable an enemy, gain Quickness and barrier, hit harder, repeat. Your Hammer and gyros are full of soft crowd control, and the Scrapper line turns those disables into self-Quickness and Superspeed. The faster you attack, the more Might and barrier you stack, and the less anything you fight gets to do back.
Object in Motion makes Superspeed, Quickness and Stability into damage bonuses, and Kinetic Accelerators hands you Superspeed and Might every time a gyro finishes. The one rule: keep pressing your CC on cooldown — that is what keeps the whole engine spinning.
Skills
Gyros are the core of the bar. Blast Gyro is a rolling blast finisher and your best burst, Shredder Gyro whirls for sustained cleave and a lightning-field blast, and Throw Mine is a stunbreak that also strips boons. Healing Turret is a big heal plus a water-field blast for extra healing, and Elite Mortar Kit gives you five ranged skills — your answer to anything you cannot melee.

Traits
Three lines: Firearms for raw crit damage, Explosives for even more damage and the barrier that keeps you standing, and Scrapper for the gyros, the self-Quickness and the Superspeed engine. The gold line is drawn through the selected path in each specialisation.
How the nine traits actually work
Firearms — crit into damage. High Caliber gives extra crit chance against foes near you, No Scope refunds ferocity on a crit, and Sharpshooter bleeds on crit. Camped in melee against a target you are critting nonstop, all three are close to permanent.
Explosives — damage plus your defence. Glass Cannon is a flat damage boost while your health is high, Explosive Temper stacks Might as you attack, and Big Boomer hands you barrier whenever you strike a foe below the health threshold — a huge chunk of why this build never dies.
Scrapper — the engine. Gyroscopic Acceleration shares Superspeed off your gyros, Object in Motion turns Superspeed, Quickness and Stability into flat damage modifiers, and Kinetic Accelerators grants Superspeed and Might every time a gyro completes. Chain gyros and you are permanently fast, quick and hitting harder.
Where the Quickness comes from. You are not slotting a boon-duration stat for it — the Quickness is generated by disabling enemies and by your gyro traits, then made into damage by Object in Motion. Keep the CC flowing and it stays up on its own.
Rotation
There is no strict rotation — you react. The strip below is a priority loop: open with your crowd control to bank Quickness and Superspeed, blast for Might, then hold the Hammer auto while the gyros recharge. Press play, or click any step.
The priority, in order: land a disable (Hammer 5, Hammer 4, Hammer 3 into the lightning field, Blast Gyro), blast your lightning field for Might, then camp Hammer 1 and Electro-whirl until a gyro is back.
When to reach for the Mortar
Swap to Elite Mortar Kit for anything you cannot reach: flying enemies, ranged phases, or tagging a spread-out pack in a meta. Its Orbital Strike toolbelt is a hard-hitting ranged nuke that fires without leaving your Hammer.
Keep moving. Superspeed is a damage bonus here, not just mobility — via Object in Motion. Chaining gyros keeps it up, so there is almost never a reason to stand still.
The honest verdict
What it is best at, and what it is not:
Take it for durability and uptime with real damage attached. Between barrier from Big Boomer, healing from every hit and near-permanent Quickness, you can facetank content that deletes a glass build, and you still cleave hard. The trade-off is range and burst ceiling: it is a melee bruiser, so ranged phases mean the Mortar, and a dedicated glass build will out-spike you on a golem. It shines on champions, bounties, hero points and busy metas where staying in is the DPS.
Best for: solo open world, champions and bounties, meta-event zergs, and newer engineers who want something forgiving.

Questions
Is Power Scrapper good for solo open world?
Yes — it is one of the most comfortable solo builds Engineer has. You get near-permanent self-Quickness, barrier and healing from dealing damage, and a full melee kit with a ranged backup. It handles champions, bounties and hero points on its own, and the only thing it asks is that you keep pressing your crowd control.
Where does the Quickness come from?
From disabling enemies and from your Scrapper gyro traits — not from a boon-duration stat. Kinetic Accelerators and Object in Motion turn Superspeed and Quickness into damage, so chaining gyros and CC keeps it up on its own. That is why the gear can stay pure Berserker’s.
Do I need full Berserker’s, or is cheaper gear fine?
Exotic Berserker’s is completely fine for all open world and cheap to craft. The one or two Dragon’s pieces just add a little Vitality; you can run full Berserker’s if that is what you have. Ascended is a small stat bump and the agony resistance fractals want — open world never asks for it.
Why Hammer instead of Flamethrower?
Both work — a Flamethrower variant is popular and slightly more forgiving at range. This build camps Hammer for the higher melee cleave, the built-in crowd control that feeds Quickness, and Electro-whirl’s reflect. If you prefer to stand back and hose enemies down, the Flamethrower Kit is the natural swap.
What is the actual rotation?
Priority, not a fixed loop: open with crowd control (Hammer 5, 4, 3) and Blast Gyro to bank Quickness and Might, blast the lightning field, then camp Hammer 1 and Electro-whirl until a gyro is off cooldown. Swap to the Elite Mortar Kit for ranged phases and its Orbital Strike nuke.
Is Rune of the Scholar the best rune?
It is the standard pick because this build keeps your health high, so the above-90% bonus is almost always live. Rune of Strength is a steadier alternative if you take a lot of damage, and Rune and Relic are the most meta-volatile slots on any build — sanity-check them against the current patch.
Can it do meta events and zergs?
Yes — it is one of its best jobs. The Mortar Kit and gyro blasts tag large packs, the crowd control helps break defiance bars, and your barrier and healing keep you up in the middle of a messy fight. It is a genuinely strong pick for open-world zerg content.
About this build
Power Scrapper is a durable power-DPS Engineer build for solo open world, meta events and zergs in Guild Wars 2. It runs Berserker’s and Dragon’s gear across the Firearms, Explosives and Scrapper specialisations with a Hammer, Superior Rune of the Scholar and Relic of Fireworks. The core loop is a Hammer-and-gyro melee dance: disable enemies to generate your own Quickness and Superspeed, stack barrier and Might from hitting things, and keep near-permanent uptime while the Elite Mortar Kit covers ranged phases. It is a forgiving, high-sustain bruiser with strong cleave and crowd control.
Gear, traits and skills decoded from the in-game build template and verified against the official Guild Wars 2 API (profession Engineer; Firearms / Explosives / Scrapper; 9 traits and 5 skills all resolve). Build based on the Power Scrapper open-world setup from GuildJen, cross-checked against the API on 13 July 2026. Runes and relics are the most meta-volatile slots and shift with each balance patch.
