How Star Trek: Outposts Unknown plays
In Star Trek: Outposts Unknown, you spend your time getting an outpost working. You place research facilities, choose which technologies and buildings to develop, and assign crew to the jobs that let you explore further. The Star Trek setting frames those decisions around helping a civilisation threatened by a cosmic force in the X'Lehari system.
Your buildings and your people need to work together. Officers develop as you progress, while dangerous encounters test the crew's morale and abilities. The developer's logistics material describes resource chains, pipes and conduits taking up space in the outpost: planning where things go matters alongside deciding what to research.
This is a single-player outpost builder with an original story set in the 23rd century, alongside the era of Strange New Worlds. If you are looking for a game about commanding a starship in combat, the actual building and crew-management loop is the thing to check first.

Release and launch updates
Magic Fuel Games developed the game and Playstack publishes it. It released for Windows PC on Steam on 20 October 2026. The developer's launch response acknowledges that the game was not what many players had hoped for. Subsequent 1.0.2 and 1.0.3 notes address stuck vehicles, resource deliveries and a Chapter 4 progression blocker, among other fixes. Those are reasons to check the current build before committing to a long save, rather than treating the licence as a recommendation.
