This WoW Forever Marksmanship Hunter build is a level-60 example with 31 points in Marksmanship and 20 in Beast Mastery. You fight with ranged attacks while an active pet contributes damage and support. The guide explains aiming, Mana, pet attention and the selected Sniper Shot talent before you try changing the points yourself.
This guide is for players new to WoW or new to Hunter who want to understand ranged combat and pet control. A build means the talent choices that shape your character. This is an educational ranged-and-pet example, not a Lone Wolf setup or a tested claim about highest damage. I checked the allocation against the saved FOREVER talent rules; I have not tested it in game.

What playing this Marksmanship Hunter is like
Your own character and your pet have separate actions. Learning to watch both is more useful than memorizing a list of shots without knowing what the companion is doing.
- Choose a target and keep room. Auto Shot provides automatic ranged shooting until you stop it. Other shots give you decisions about timing, range and Mana.
- Keep the pet involved. Several selected talents improve your pet or require it to be active. A pet that is absent, dead or attacking the wrong target changes the situation.
- React when attention changes. An enemy reaching you is a positioning problem as well as a damage problem. Your threat tools have specific effects; they are not universal escape guarantees.
The captured FOREVER Hunter uses Mana for these player abilities. Do not import the modern Hunter Focus resource into this guide. The companion has its own ability reference, which is separate from your player’s talent points.
Marksmanship Hunter talent calculator: try the build
This example uses 51 talent points: 31 Marksmanship / 20 Beast Mastery. It assumes the standard level-60 point budget without extra Legacy talent-point modifiers. A talent rank is a point invested in an improvement; a spell rank is a recorded version of an ability. They are different things.
Click a talent to read its effect, then use the plus and minus controls to change your points. The planner checks recorded rank limits, tree-spending gates and prerequisite talents. You can start empty, reload this example or save your own allocation. The complete table remains readable without the planner.

Why these Hunter talents are here

Sniper Shot and Hawk Eye explain the ranged focus
At the selected 3/3 rank, Hawk Eye adds six yards to ranged-weapon range. Sniper Shot is the final-row talent selected in this Marksmanship tree. Its captured description extends the range of your next three Shots by ten yards for ten seconds. This is a limited range benefit, not extra damage on every attack or a promise that every shot has the same minimum distance.
Sniper Shot also deals ranged damage. Its talent tooltip and the separate learned spell ranks have different recorded damage additions. Read the spell-reference tab for the rank on your character; the talent's single point does not make every spell rank identical.
Range is useful only if you notice where your target and pet are. A range talent does not remove the need to face the target or make a spell available while it is on cooldown. Cooldown means the wait before that ability can be used again.

Critical attacks, Attack Power and efficient shots
At 5/5, Lethal Attacks adds 5% critical-strike chance with all attacks. A critical strike is an attack that gets its critical damage result. Mortal Shots at 5/5 increases the critical-strike damage bonus of ranged abilities by 30%. That is a change to the bonus part, not 30% more damage on every hit. The selected 4/5 Ranged Weapon Specialization adds 4% ranged-weapon damage; its unselected fifth rank is not included.
Careful Aim at 5/5 increases Attack Power by an amount equal to 100% of your Intellect in the captured description. For example, 100 Intellect contributes 100 Attack Power through this talent. It does not consume that Intellect or mean your entire Attack Power is doubled. This explains one stat relationship, not a complete equipment priority.
Efficiency at 5/5 lowers the Mana cost of Shots, Stings and melee abilities by 15%. The named costs are reduced, rather than removed; this is not a promise that every Hunter action costs less Mana.
Rapid Killing at 2/2 reduces Rapid Fire's cooldown by two minutes. Its separate kill-triggered benefit is explained below. These are two effects of one talent, not permission to use Rapid Fire continuously.
Trueshot Aura supports party or raid members within 45 yards. The captured rank-1 talent tooltip adds a flat 15 Ranged Attack Power; learned spell ranks have separate recorded values, so this is not a universal level-60 aura amount. That tooltip value is neither a 15% damage increase nor a claim that every raid member benefits at any distance. Ranged Attack Power is the named benefit; this wording does not promise a boost to every spell or melee attack.

Beast Mastery and aspects: supporting an active pet
Deadly Aspects at 5/5 gives Auto Shot a 10% chance to increase ranged attack speed by 30% for twelve seconds while Aspect of the Hawk is active. A proc is an effect triggered by an event with a stated chance: this speed boost is not guaranteed on each shot. Aspect of the Beast has its own melee-auto-attack condition; the two aspect benefits do not apply at once.
Focused Fire at 2/2 increases all damage you and your pet deal by 2% while your pet is active. Losing that active companion changes the condition for both parts of this benefit. Endurance Training at 5/5 adds 15% pet Health and Armor. Unleashed Fury at 5/5 adds 15% damage for pets and hawks, but this allocation does not select Summon Hawk. Bestial Swiftness adds 30% pet movement speed. Moving faster is a different benefit from dealing more attack damage.

Recovering when the pet is hurt or defeated
At 2/2, Improved Revive Pet reduces Revive Pet's cast time by six seconds and Mana cost by 40%, and increases the Health the pet returns with by an additional 30%. Additional returned Health is the talent's wording, not a claim that the pet always revives at exactly 30% total Health. This helps recovery after defeat; it does not prevent the pet from dying.
Mend Pet in the saved reference is a focused, channeled heal. A channel means you keep performing the action over time. Do not assume it is an instant heal-over-time button while you continue every other attack freely.
Marksmanship Hunter rotation: shots and pet decisions
Use a simple target to learn how your shots and your companion fit together. These situations are explanations, not a timed or damage-optimized rotation. Check the actual rank and availability of each ability on your character.

Start a ranged fight
Pick the enemy you intend to attack and check what your pet is doing. Auto Shot starts automatic shooting. Hunter’s Mark adds Ranged Attack Power against the marked target in the saved description; it is not a general bonus to every kind of damage.
Aimed Shot is a trained ability in this saved reference, with rank 1 listed at level 20; this build does not spend a talent point to unlock it. Aimed Shot and Multi-Shot share a cooldown, so using one affects availability of the other. Arcane Shot is an instant Arcane-damage attack. Serpent Sting applies continuing Nature damage, with only one Sting from you allowed on a given target. These are different tools to understand, not a verified optimal opener. Watch target movement, Mana and what your pet is doing rather than pressing every available shot.

Sniper Shot is available
Sniper Shot deals ranged damage and changes the range of the next three Shots for its recorded window. Use that description to understand the choice. This guide does not establish an optimal opener, weapon-speed breakpoint or repeated shot timer.

Your pet needs attention
Look at its Health and whether it is actually attacking the intended enemy. Mend Pet can require channeling time; Revive Pet is recovery after defeat. Pausing your own pressure to manage the companion can be a real part of playing this example.

An enemy reaches your character
Kiting means keeping distance while controlling an enemy's approach. Concussive Shot slows a target's movement by 50% for four seconds in this reference. That can give you time to reposition; it does not freeze the enemy or make you immune. Avoid treating this as proof of an optimal PvP strategy or universal eight-yard dead zone.
Disengage in this captured FOREVER reference reduces threat and disables auto-attack. It is not the familiar backward jump from other WoW versions. Read that distinction before treating it as a movement tool; moving away and changing the enemy’s attention are separate decisions.

The fight is getting out of control
Feign Death may trick enemies into ignoring you in the recorded description. It is not a promise of guaranteed immunity. Consider what your pet and nearby allies are doing as well; your own threat action does not automatically resolve every enemy in the group.
Hunter pets: abilities and unknown learning levels
Open the Companions tab to compare the saved pet ability ranks. Growl attracts enemy attention, while Cower lowers the pet’s threat. Those are opposite purposes. A group tank and a pet trying to attract the same enemy need different decisions than a pet helping you fight alone.
Dash and Dive improve movement. Other records identify family-specific actions, such as a boar’s Charge or a wolf’s Furious Howl. This reference does not fully model family eligibility, so it must not imply that every pet can learn every listed ability.
All 153 Hunter pet-rank rows in this saved set have an unconfirmed learning level. The page displays that as unknown. A rank being listed is not proof that your pet can learn it at a particular level, and I have not filled those gaps with Classic training tables.
Mana, ranks and what this example does not decide
When does Rapid Killing improve my next Shot?
At 2/2, Rapid Killing gives your next Shot ability within twenty seconds 20% more damage after its qualifying trigger: you kill a non-trivial enemy, or that enemy dies while afflicted by your Serpent Sting. The second route matters because it is not limited to your own killing blow. This is one next-Shot benefit inside a window, not twenty seconds of increased damage on all shots.
Rapid Fire is different: its saved ability description increases ranged and melee attack speed by 40% for fifteen seconds. Rapid Killing's cooldown reduction changes how long you wait to use Rapid Fire again; its triggered next-Shot damage effect does a separate job.
Does Mana efficiency replace watching my resources?
No. This character spends Mana on the named player abilities. Efficiency lowers its named costs, while Auto Shot, a speed proc and the pet have distinct roles. Spending less Mana does not refill your Mana bar. Use the spell-reference tab to compare player ranks and the Companions tab for pet ranks.
Why does this build keep a pet instead of Lone Wolf?
Lone Wolf exists in this captured FOREVER tree. Its description gives 20% increased damage with all attacks while you do not have an active pet. This example leaves it unselected and spends twenty points in Beast Mastery to support an active companion. Focused Fire requires an active pet, while Lone Wolf requires the opposite condition. You cannot assume both conditions hold at the same time.
A petless build would need its own talent choices and play explanation. This page does not establish which setup wins a damage comparison. Trueshot Aura also provides the stated nearby group benefit, so describing this example as a petless Hunter with no group utility would be wrong.
This example does not rank pet families, prescribe a best-in-slot equipment list or promise the fastest leveling route. Its practical starting point is learning your ranged tools and how a living, correctly controlled companion changes the fight.
Sources, versions and uncertainty
The talents use the saved World of Warcraft: Forever client reference 1.60.1.70755. Individual class spell and companion records retain their own earlier source-build context, including 70753, rather than being relabeled as the same capture. These are captured descriptions, not a live-server test. A new patch, changed rank cap or different server behavior requires a fresh check. The linked calculator is now labeled build 70790; I have not merged its later values into this captured 70755 example. The snapshot label describes the rules used here, not a claim that this is the latest live-server build.
This class has 2 cases in the original 64-case TEMP research set. The question marks identify unresolved effects and affected ranks. No uncertain numeric candidate has been chosen. The reference can include abilities outside this selected build; that does not mean the example spends points in all of them.
The character illustration was prepared for Crit Pick using AI. It illustrates the class, not official gameplay. Ability icons come from the saved FOREVER reference sources.
