Level 60 example · 31 Shadow / 20 DisciplineFOREVER talent snapshot 1.60.1.707555 November 2026 · not tested in game

This WoW Forever Shadow Priest build is a level-60 spell-damage example with 31 points in Shadow and 20 in Discipline. It uses Shadowform, damage-over-time effects and channeled attacks, with supporting points for Mana and threat. The complete allocation is available in the interactive tree below.

This guide is for players new to WoW or new to Shadow Priest who want to understand the buttons and talent choices before trying the example. A build means the talent improvements you choose. This is a Shadow damage example rather than a dedicated healing setup. I checked its choices against the saved FOREVER talent rules, but have not tested it in game or established a highest-damage rotation.

What playing this Shadow Priest is like

Your attacks do not all deliver their damage in the same way. Learning the difference makes it easier to decide what to do when you have to move or protect yourself.

  • Keep a continuing effect in mind. Shadow Word: Pain deals damage over time. Players shorten that to DoT: damage arriving in repeated ticks rather than one immediate hit.
  • Recognize casting and channeling. Mind Blast is a direct attack. Mind Flay is a channel, which means you keep performing the spell over time while it damages and slows the target.
  • Understand Shadowform’s tradeoff. The form improves the named Shadow and protection properties, but the captured description prevents healing spell casts while you are in it.

Vampiric Embrace can turn your Shadow damage into party healing. That is support from a damage role, not evidence that this build replaces a dedicated healer or removes the need to react to danger.

Shadow Priest talent calculator: try the build

This example uses 51 talent points: 31 Shadow / 20 Discipline. It assumes the standard level-60 point budget without extra Legacy talent-point modifiers. A talent rank is a point invested in an improvement; a spell rank is a recorded version of an ability. They are different things.

Click a talent to read its effect, then use the plus and minus controls to change your points. The planner checks recorded rank limits, tree-spending gates and prerequisite talents. You can start empty, reload this example or save your own allocation. The complete table remains readable without the planner.

Why these Shadow talents are here

What does Shadowform change?

In this FOREVER snapshot, Shadowform increases Shadow damage by 10%, reduces the Mana cost of Shadow spells by 50% and reduces Physical damage taken by 15%. It also increases the critical strike damage bonus of Shadow spells by 100%. That last number changes the bonus; it does not mean every spell deals double total damage. The Mana discount applies to Shadow spells, not every spell you can learn. The important beginner restriction is that you may not cast healing spells while in this form. I have not replaced that with the narrower wording from another WoW version.

A critical strike, often called a crit, is a hit with extra damage. Increasing a critical-damage bonus is different from guaranteeing that a spell will critically hit. The point allocation is a way to explore those properties, not a damage benchmark.

Mind Flay, Mind Blast and Dark Inspiration

Improved Shadow Word: Pain extends the spell’s duration. At this build's selected 3/5 rank, Improved Mind Blast reduces Mind Blast's cooldown by 1.5 seconds. A cooldown is the wait before the ability is available again; a reduction is not the same as its final cooldown. Neither talent means that every attack should be pressed as quickly as possible regardless of the fight.

Mind Flay is a channeled Shadow attack with a slow. Improved Mind Flay makes successive damage instances stronger in this reference. If you interrupt your own channel to move, you are making a different choice from letting that sequence finish. Staying safe can still matter more than completing a cast.

Dark Inspiration is triggered by Mind Blast or a fully channeled Mind Flay. At the selected 3/5 rank, it increases your Spirit and your party's Spirit by 9% for ten seconds. Spirit is a character attribute connected to regeneration; it is not Haste. A partly completed channel does not meet the fully channeled trigger in this description.

Shadow Weaving and Vampiric Embrace: who benefits?

Shadow Weaving makes the target take more Shadow damage from you. It can stack, but the captured wording does not make it a universal raid-wide Shadow vulnerability. Darkness is another selected source of your Shadow damage improvement, while Shadow Focus improves your chance to hit with Shadow spells.

Vampiric Embrace heals party members from the Shadow damage you deal under its effect. That party healing is different from casting a healing spell yourself. It does not make Shadowform's healing-spell restriction disappear.

Why these Discipline points support the example

Twin Disciplines improves instant-cast spell damage and healing, not every Shadow cast or channel. Mental Agility reduces the cost of the named spells and instant spells; it should not be presented as a universal Mana discount on every ability.

Mental Strength improves Intellect, and Meditation allows some Mana regeneration while casting. Wand Specialization supports wand attacks if you use them. Silent Resolve provides its named threat and control-duration benefits. The guide uses those points instead of Power in Light, which improves Smite and Penance rather than this example’s Shadow core.

Shadow Priest rotation: single-target spell decisions

Start with a single enemy and enough room to learn which spells are continuing effects and which need casting time. These are situations to reason through, not a fixed, optimized rotation. Your available ranks and the enemy’s behavior still matter.

Shadow Word: Pain and Mind Blast against one enemy

Shadow Word: Pain gives you a continuing damage effect. Watch whether it is still running on the target before spending Mana to apply it again. When it ends, applying it again resumes that source of damage; repeatedly pressing it is a different decision from letting its damage ticks happen. Mind Blast gives you a direct attack, but its captured description also generates high threat. Threat means the attention your actions create with an enemy; it matters when another player is trying to keep that enemy occupied.

You have room to channel

Mind Flay deals damage over time while you channel and slows the target. Improved Mind Flay and Dark Inspiration give reasons to understand the full channel. They do not make it safe to remain stationary when an enemy or the environment forces you to move.

You need to protect yourself

Power Word: Shield absorbs damage. Fade temporarily discourages attacks in its recorded description. A shield is not a heal, and a temporary threat tool is not proof that your accumulated threat permanently disappears.

A nearby enemy needs control

Psychic Scream can send susceptible enemies fleeing, and damage can break the effect. That is a control decision, not a guaranteed safe escape in every space. Consider where enemies may move and what your group is doing before treating fear as ordinary extra damage.

Someone needs a healing spell

Remember Shadowform’s healing-cast restriction. Using a healing spell can require changing your current form situation, rather than pressing it while every Shadow benefit remains active. Vampiric Embrace’s party healing does not remove that distinction.

Mana recovery and build tradeoffs

Does Spirit Tap refill Mana every time I deal damage?

No. At the selected 5/5 rank, Spirit Tap has a 100% trigger chance after you kill a non-trivial target or when an enemy afflicted by your Vampiric Embrace dies. It increases your Spirit by 100% for 15 seconds. During that effect, 50% of your Mana regeneration continues while casting. An ordinary damage tick without a qualifying death is not this trigger, and increased Spirit is not an instant refill of maximum Mana.

What does Meditation do while I cast?

This build selects 2/3 Meditation, allowing 33% of Mana regeneration to continue while casting. It does not instantly restore 33% of your maximum Mana when a spell lands. Mental Agility instead changes the costs of its named spells. These are different forms of Mana support; do not add their percentages together into an unverified combined result.

Before the next fight, check the Mana you have and the spells you intend to use. During combat, balance keeping a damage-over-time effect active with the cost of new casts. Wand attacks are another recorded tool supported by Wand Specialization, but this page does not claim a fixed wand-versus-spell damage comparison or an endless-Mana rotation.

Why is Shadow Word: Death still marked uncertain?

The spell-reference tab includes Shadow Word: Death and Contingency Plan with their unresolved ranks marked. I have not used uncertain effect values to add an execute rule or emergency protection promise to the core flow. The reference is broader than the selected build.

This is not a level-by-level route, race ranking or best equipment list. It explains a Shadow damage allocation and the limits of its support tools. Use the tree to inspect changes, and read each talent’s named spells before assuming a supporting point benefits every action.

Devouring Plague and alternative talent choices

Does Devouring Plague heal the party?

The captured Devouring Plague is a disease that deals Shadow damage over 24 seconds and heals the caster from its damage. Its own description names the caster, while Vampiric Embrace separately describes party healing. Those are different effects. The 24 seconds describe the disease's duration, not a verified cooldown. Recorded spell ranks change its damage; the spell-reference tab keeps those ranks separate.

Does this build spread Devouring Plague to nearby enemies?

It does not select Devouring Contagion. That alternative FOREVER talent reduces Devouring Plague's Mana cost and, when an affected target dies, spreads the disease to two nearby enemies for its remaining duration. It is a death-triggered spread, not a promise that every cast instantly hits a group. The two talent ranks have different range and cost effects, which you can inspect in the tree before moving points.

Early Demise is also unselected. It modifies Shadow Word: Death's critical-strike chance under a low-Health condition; it does not resolve that spell's TEMP effects or establish an execute rule for this example. Optional talents explain why another allocation can behave differently; they are not extra abilities silently added to these 51 points.

Sources, versions and uncertainty

The talents use the saved World of Warcraft: Forever client reference 1.60.1.70755. Individual class spell and companion records retain their own earlier source-build context, including 70753, rather than being relabeled as the same capture. These are captured descriptions, not a live-server test. A new patch, changed rank cap or different server behavior requires a fresh check.

This class has 9 cases in the original 64-case TEMP research set. The question marks identify unresolved effects and affected ranks. No uncertain numeric candidate has been chosen. The reference can include abilities outside this selected build; that does not mean the example spends points in all of them.

This guide uses a disclosed allocation variant tailored to the role explained here. The earlier nine-class explorer remains unchanged. Legally spending points proves only that the captured rules allow the choices, not that the build performs best.

The character illustration was prepared for Crit Pick using AI. It illustrates the class, not official gameplay. Ability icons come from the saved FOREVER reference sources.
