A fish that is somehow both Water and Fire, and a katana with a longer reach than the original: Seared Fish Fillet arms you at 2,900–4,200 Attack against base Skutlass’s 2,600–3,900. The catch is identical — overstay the transformation, or use Iaigiri, and Skutlass Ignis goes down with it.

There is exactly one overworld spawner: the volcano island in the far east — Flamepulse Islet (volcanoiskand_2) at Lv 40–44, day or night.

Everything else is fishing. Volcano-island fishing spots hold it at Lv 40–45 and again at 65–69, the World Tree waters at Lv 71–79, and a Large Fishing Pond gives about 3.66%. If you want one early, the unique breeding combo Skutlass + Gobfin Ignis is faster than hunting the islet.

The story of Skutlass Ignis

"A bizarre species which temporarily separates its body and uses its bones to slice through enemies, at the risk of perishing itself upon taking too long. While unconfirmed, older individuals are said to deliberately stay separated in order to trigger their survival instincts and prolong their lifespans."

The lore is inherited wholesale from Skutlass — a body separated on purpose, bones used as blades, death by dithering. What the fire variant adds is the drop table: at high level it sheds World Tree Holy Water, Water Radiant Gems and the entire ancient relic ladder, which makes farming it worth more than the katana ever was.

Fished three off the volcano coast in the time it took to find one on land. The water is the real spawn.
