Most Water Pals hand you a hose. Skutlass hands you a sword. Its partner skill peels the fish apart and leaves you holding its own bones as a katana worth 2,600–3,900 Attack — and the bill comes due on a timer. Linger in that form, or fire off Iaigiri, and the Pal you were swinging drops incapacitated.

It will also become incapacitated if Iaigiri is used." Fish Fillet is a burst window you opened yourself, not a weapon slot. Swing, land the damage, revert — and never end the window with Iaigiri unless you meant to lose the Pal for the fight.

The reliable wild population sits on the Twilight Dunes coast (paldb spawner orange_I_coast) at Lv 30–34 — shallow water and shoreline, day or night, 129 mapped points each.

A second, much higher-level group lives up on the Sky Islands around the Pal crystal fields at Lv 65–66. If you would rather not fight for one, Skutlass is also fishable from Sky Island spots and turns up in a Large Fishing Pond at roughly 3.66%.

How to breed Skutlass

Skutlass hatches from a Large Damp Egg, or you can catch one in the wild. In the Breeding Farm it sits at CombiRank 1420, so plenty of matching pairs can land on it.

The story of Skutlass

"A bizarre species which temporarily separates its body and uses its bones to slice through enemies, at the risk of perishing itself upon taking too long. While unconfirmed, older individuals are said to deliberately stay separated in order to trigger their survival instincts and prolong their lifespans."

The Paldeck is blunt about the cost in a way Palworld usually is not: the species separates its body on purpose and cuts with its own bones, and it can perish if it takes too long putting itself back together. Older individuals supposedly stay separated longer on purpose — which is as close as this game gets to a Pal getting good at nearly dying.

Field notes

Caught two on the dune shoreline at dusk. They do not flee — they orbit, then commit, which makes them easy to bait into shallow water.

First transformation ended badly. The timer is shorter than it feels when you are mid-swing.

Kept one on Watering and Lumbering duty instead. Honestly the better use of a Lv 32 catch.
