WoW Forever Tailoring guide: cloth, bags and early crafting
Start WoW Forever Tailoring with a skill 1–75 route, bag priorities, cloth budgeting, Enchanting pairing and Faction Banner camp utility.
Read guideTailoring is a primary crafting profession in WoW Forever. This guide covers trainers, cloth, bags and recipe milestones through skill 225. It can improve both equipment and bag space, so choose which problem you want to solve first. Spending all your cloth on leveling armor may leave you buying bags with gold you could have saved by making one yourself.

Bolt of Linen ClothIngredients for one craft, from the linked Forever recipe. This is not a complete leveling shopping list.
Cloth armor, bags and a profession without a gathering profession
Cloth armor, bags and other cloth items form the profession's core. Forever also has a dedicated reagent-bag slot. The checked Icy Veins overview lists a six-slot Linen Bag and a separate six-stack Linen Reagent Bag; these are different kinds of storage.
Cloth drops do not require a dedicated gathering profession. That makes a practical partner, although you still need enough cloth and purchased supplies to support both crafts.
trainers, ranks and the skill cap
Your profession rank sets the current rank cap; your character level and Tailoring skill determine when you can learn the next one. Apprentice Tailoring caps at 75. You can learn Journeyman Tailoring at skill 50 and character level 10, raising the cap to 150. Expert Tailoring requires 125 and level 20, for a cap of 225. Artisan Tailoring requires 200 and level 35, taking the profession cap to 300. These requirements follow the Forever rank reference.
Alliance trainers and Horde trainers
For starting trainer locations, Alliance players can check Lawrence Schneider in Stormwind's Mage Quarter, Uthrar Threx at Ironforge's Great Forge, or Trianna in Darnassus. Horde starting options include Snang in Orgrimmar, Victor Ward in Undercity and Vhan in Thunder Bluff. Ask a city guard for directions rather than searching every shop.
Later training is a separate visit. The reference lists Georgio Bolero in Stormwind and Josef Gregorian in Undercity for Expert, then Timothy Worthington on Theramore Isle and Daryl Stack in Tarren Mill for Artisan. Confirm the trainer's rank and your own requirements before making a long journey. Bring enough gold for the training and the next useful recipes, not just the materials.
Cloth bolts and vendor supplies: plan one stage at a time
Raw cloth and cloth bolts are different inventory items. A Bolt of Linen Cloth is a component made from Linen Cloth; the next recipe consumes that component. When comparing a shopping list with the Auction House, check whether its figures refer to loose cloth or already crafted bolts. Buying both full amounts can leave you paying twice for the same stage.
| Material stage | Prepare | Check before spending |
|---|---|---|
and | Keep enough for a first bag if needed | |
Reserve bolts for | ||
and the listed dye | Match the exact recipe's supplies | |
Compare equipment with bag priorities | ||
Runecloth | Later Bolt of Runecloth projects | Keep outside the prescribed 1–225 budget |
A Tailoring Supplies vendor is the first place to check thread and dye. Depending on the pattern, you may need Coarse Thread, Fine Thread, Silken Thread, Heavy Silken Thread or Rune Thread. One grade does not substitute for another. Red Dye is likewise a named ingredient, not a general allowance to buy any dye. Read the recipe's shopping requirements before traveling back to the crafting menu.
Skill ups when a recipe turns yellow
A planned skill range is a route, not a promise that every craft gives a skill point. Yellow and green recipes can require extra attempts. If a recipe turns gray, it can still be a useful component or something you intend to use, but making more will not advance your Tailoring skill. Check the current recipe color instead of treating a published quantity as a command.
Before a large batch, make a few pieces and compare your new skill with the next milestone. If you are already near the end of a skill bracket, buying materials for the entire starting batch wastes bag space and ties up gold. Save components that appear in the next recipe; sell only after checking whether they have another planned use.
Apprentice : starting at skill 1–75
The opening path below follows Icy Veins' Forever leveling reference. Keep the bolts: they are ingredients, not finished clutter.
| Skill target | Recipe | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
1–30 | About 30 bolts use 60 | |
30–55 | Uses the linen bolts plus | |
55–75 | Save these for the next stage |
The reference budgets about 32 wool bolts in total for the later cape step, including those already made before 75. Do not interpret each stage as an instruction to buy a completely new set of materials.
Keep cloth for bags and
Divide your cloth before a long crafting session: one supply for the selected skill route, one for bags or equipment you intend to use, and one for if you are developing it. Otherwise two separate checklists can both claim the same stack.
If you are short on cloth, compare several options: use a cheaper available recipe, spend a session where cloth drops fit your quests, or buy a small amount to finish the stage. Do not assume that grinding hundreds of enemies is automatically the cheapest use of your time.
and are a tradeoff
A crafted uncommon item may become enchanting material. Before repeating that loop, compare its cloth and thread cost with the price of buying the dust or essence. Also compare selling the equipment itself. The attractive part is having several possible uses for the output; none is automatically the most profitable.
If your goal is simply larger bags, you do not need to learn Tailoring to use another player's bags. Taking the profession makes more sense when you also want its equipment, recipes or ongoing crafting role.
Crafted cloth armor and caster gear: check binding first
The community overview identifies early caster sashes that bind when picked up. Inspect the binding on the actual recipe before investing in a tailor intended to equip all your characters. A bag you can trade and a personal armor craft are different promises.
For an armor upgrade, compare the relevant stats with the role you play. A healer and damage caster can both wear cloth while wanting different items.
Camping features: , Spinning Wheel and
The early Faction Banner supplies Spirit to eligible nearby faction members and overlaps with Divine Spirit. Consider the group you are camping with before selecting it. The official camp explanation covers its conditions.
Before logging out, keep your next recipe's materials together and sell only the leftovers you no longer need. That small habit matters more than following a fixed shopping total after your skill gains have already diverged from it.
Leveling from 75 to 225
These further milestones use the same Forever leveling reference. Train the next rank before its cap, keep components for later rows, and check each recipe in your client.

150–170 | |
170–190 | |
190–215 | |
215–225 |
The checked reference does not yet confirm a 225–300 recipe route. This guide stops its prescribed sequence at 225 rather than labeling a Classic shopping list as a tested Forever route.
Reagent bag or ordinary bag: choose the storage you need
An ordinary bag adds general inventory space. A reagent bag occupies the dedicated reagent-bag slot and holds eligible profession materials. A larger reagent bag does not solve every kind of inventory problem: equipment and unrelated loot still need ordinary slots. Compare the actual item tooltip and capacity before crafting.
The Forever bag overview lists Linen Reagent Bag, Woolen Reagent Bag, Silk Reagent Bag and Mageweave Reagent Bag alongside ordinary bags. Start with the bag space your current play session needs. If most of your clutter is cloth, separating it can help; if your backpack is full of quest items and armor, check ordinary bag capacity first.
Craft bags or level Tailoring first?
A useful bag can justify a detour from a low-cost leveling recipe. Compare its material costs with buying a finished bag from another player. Include the value of your cloth even when you looted it yourself: using it for bags means it is unavailable for cloth gear, First Aid or sale.
Later names such as Runecloth Bag and Felcloth Bag belong to different material and pattern budgets. Check where the pattern comes from before buying an endgame stack. A world drop, a vendor pattern and a trainer recipe involve different acquisition costs. Do not assume every bag appears at your next profession-rank trainer.
Crafting stations and personal equipment
The Forever pattern reference distinguishes new personal cloth crafts that require a Spinning Wheel. Inspect both station requirements and binding. Owning cloth and a pattern is not enough if your chosen craft needs a station you cannot currently access.
The camping list includes the Spinning Wheel at skill 140 and Loom at 300. These are later station goals, separate from learning your next profession rank. Use the recipe's requirement to decide whether you need one now; do not stop an ordinary early cloth session merely because you have seen a future Loom recipe.
patterns, certification and Legacy goals
Patterns are another expense beside raw materials. Before buying one, identify whether you want its gear, its storage capacity or an opportunity to sell the result. A recipe that looks impressive but has no use for your character can wait while you fund the next rank or a needed bag upgrade.
The same pattern reference lists Tailoring Certification at skill 300. It is a later title goal, not an extra early crafting rank. Check the current vendor requirements before saving a fixed currency total.
Blizzard's Legacy system recognizes non-gathering primary tradeskill milestones at 150, 225 and 300. Keep those goals separate from a bag purchase or a caster upgrade. Reaching the next useful item can be a better immediate stopping point than spending every remaining cloth stack simply to move the number.
