Power Mirage

The GW2 Power Mirage is the mesmer build for people who want their dodge to be an attack button. Greatsword opens the fight, dagger/sword finishes it, and Dune Cloak turns every Mind Wrack into another Mirage Cloak — so shattering and evading feed each other. It is easy to play, it teleports, blocks and goes invulnerable on demand, and it hits hard in short bursts. The trade is honest: almost no boons, and sustained damage that is fine rather than impressive.

Equipment

Berserker is the base, with Assassin filling in for critical chance. Berserker gives you power, precision and ferocity; the Assassin pieces trade ferocity for more precision, which is what gets you to a workable critical rate without a fury source of your own. Mesmer wears light armour, so the named ascended sets are the Tailor’s Zojja’s and Saphir’s pieces. The rune is Superior Rune of Infiltration and the relic is Relic of the Thief.

Two sets: Greatsword opens, Dagger / Sword follows up. Both run Superior Sigil of Force and Superior Sigil of Accuracy. Sigil of Energy is worth considering in open world — it refunds endurance on every weapon swap, and on this build endurance is damage — but it loses to Force plus Accuracy on paper.

Alternativesweapons, gear, relic

You do not have to farm two stat sets. Full Berserker works — you lose some critical chance and gain ferocity, which in open world is a rounding error. Start on exotic: look for Zhed armour, an Ebonblade greatsword, an Uzoku dagger and a Bonetti sword on the trading post. On the relic slot, Relic of Zakiros trades a little damage for sustain, Relic of the Cavalier starts fights with boons, Relic of Durability is flat defence.

How the build works

Everything on this build is trying to get you back into Mirage Cloak.

Mirage Cloak is the mesmer’s dodge, and it does not move you. You shimmer in place, evade for 0.75 seconds, and for 1.5 seconds your first weapon skill becomes an Ambush. There is no cast time and no roll, so you can dodge mid-cast, mid-revive, mid-anything — the exception is hard crowd control and immobilise. Dune Cloak then closes the loop: shatter with enough clones and you gain Mirage Cloak for free, and gaining Mirage Cloak recharges Mind Wrack.

Skills

Your utility bar is picked almost entirely for how often it hands you another Mirage Cloak. Signet of the Ether recharges your phantasm skills, so you get more Phantasmal Berserker, more clones, more shatters. Illusionary Ambush shuffles your clones onto a new target and grants Mirage Cloak — a free ambush and a repositioning tool at once. Crystal Sands drops mirage mirrors, and picking one up is another Mirage Cloak. Mantra of Pain is instant damage with no cast time, which matters on a build where standing still is how you die. Signet of Humility is your crowd control and turns a champion’s breakbar into a formality.

Traits

Three lines: Domination for raw strike damage, Dueling for critical damage, Mirage for the dodge loop.

Selected traits 9

What the nine traits are doing

Vicious Expression is the headline of the Domination line: more strike damage from you and your illusions, considerably more against foes with no boons, and disabling something strips boons off it. That is a second reason Signet of Humility earns its slot.

Egotism adds damage against anything whose health percentage is below yours — which, on a build this bursty, is most of the fight after the opener lands.

Bountiful Blades is greatsword-specific: two extra Mirror Blade bounces and a second Phantasmal Berserker, at the cost of each berserker hitting softer. Drop it for Empowered Illusions the moment you stop running greatsword.

Superiority Complex raises your critical damage outright, and raises it further against disabled foes or anything under half health. Fencer’s Finesse stacks ferocity every time you or an illusion connects with a sword — offhand sword counts — and cuts sword recharge.

Phantasmal Fury hands fury to your phantasms, which is where a good part of their damage comes from. Your clones, by contrast, are not damage on a power build. They are ammunition.

Dune Cloak and Phantom Pain are the Mirage engine: the first returns Mirage Cloak on shatter, the second stacks a damage buff for every clone you consume, up to four stacks for ten seconds. Self-Deception quietly adds a clone whenever you use a Deception skill, keeping Illusionary Ambush and Crystal Sands feeding the shatter economy.

Rotation

There is a rotation, but it is a priority list wearing a rotation’s clothes: get clones out, shatter at three, dodge whenever you are above half endurance, and swap weapons when your phantasm skill is down.

1
Mirror Blade — a clone, plus bounces
2
Phantasmal Berserker — two phantasms
3
Dodge — Mirage Cloak
4
Split Surge — the greatsword ambush
5
Mind Wrack at three clones — Dune Cloak returns the cloak
6
Weapon swap — repeat on dagger/sword

On dagger/sword the shape repeats: Phantasmal Swordsman, then Bladecall and Unstable Bladestorm, dodge for Phantom Razor, shatter at three, then swap back.

What you hold back

Illusionary Wave does very little damage — it is a knockback, so keep it for breakbars and for shoving something off you. Illusionary Riposte is a block whose follow-up dazes, so spending it as filler damage wastes both halves.

And be careful with Mind Stab: it interrupts whatever you are casting in order to go off, including your heal. That is the one skill on the bar that can cost you a fight by being pressed at the wrong moment.

The one rule that matters more than the order: dodge whenever you are above half endurance. An ambush you did not fire is damage you did not do, and endurance does not bank. Everything else on this page is detail around that single habit.

The honest verdict

The most utility for the least effort — and no boons.

Power Mirage has a block, an evade on Blurred Frenzy, invulnerability on Distortion, two teleports and a stunbreak, and the difficulty is genuinely low. What it is not is a damage build you would take to a raid, or a build anyone wants beside them for boons. MetaBattle rates it Good rather than Meta, and that is the right call.

Best for solo open world, story, hero points, bounties and map completion — anywhere burst plus escape tools beats a damage meter. Not for instanced content on a timer, or any group that expects you to bring boons. The default bar also carries no condition cleanse: slot Mantra of Resolve when a zone punishes you for that.

Build code

Paste it into chat or onto an empty build template slot. It loads skills and traits — not gear, stats or upgrades. Set those from the equipment section above. The code was decoded and checked against the official Guild Wars 2 API, so every trait and skill on this page came out of it rather than off a screenshot.

Questions

Is Power Mirage good for open world?

Yes, and that is the mode it is built for. You get burst damage plus an unusually deep box of escape tools: a block, an evade, invulnerability, two teleports and a dodge that attacks. It handles solo champions, story and open-world roaming comfortably. It is a weak pick for instanced group content, where its low boon output and merely-fine sustained damage both show.

Power Mirage or Celestial Mirage?

Different jobs. Power Mirage kills things faster and gives you burst plus mobility; the Celestial Mirage refuses to die and ramps conditions slowly. Take Power Mirage if fights are already ending in seconds and you want them to end sooner. Take Celestial if you keep dying, or if you fight things that take two minutes.

Do I need Secrets of the Obscure?

Only for the dagger. Weaponmaster Training from Secrets of the Obscure is what lets mesmer use dagger outside of Virtuoso. Without it, run mainhand sword instead — it deals less damage, but the evade on Blurred Frenzy is genuinely useful. Path of Fire is the hard requirement, because that is where Mirage comes from.

Should I take Infinite Horizon?

No. On a condition Mirage it is the core trait; on a power Mirage it does almost nothing, because clones deal very little strike damage, so having them ambush is cosmetic. Dune Cloak gives you an extra Mirage Cloak on every shatter, and that is real damage.

What about spear?

Spear can replace greatsword and it hits harder, with more area damage and a condition cleanse attached. The catch is that it is melee only. Its ambush, Fractured Glass, does more damage than either the greatsword or the dagger ambush. If you take it, drop Bountiful Blades for Empowered Illusions.

Is the Berserker and Assassin mix required?

No. Full Berserker is a perfectly good open-world setup and much cheaper to assemble. The Assassin pieces exist to buy critical chance you would otherwise be short of. Start on full exotic Berserker and add Assassin pieces later if your crits feel unreliable.

Which rune and relic should I run?

The build defaults to Superior Rune of Infiltration and Relic of the Thief. Rune and relic are the two most patch-volatile slots on any GW2 build, so sanity-check them against the current balance notes. To trade damage for staying alive, Relic of Zakiros, Relic of the Cavalier and Relic of Durability are the usual swaps.

About this build

The Power Mirage is a strike-damage Mesmer build for open world in Guild Wars 2, built on the Mirage elite specialisation from Path of Fire. It runs Berserker gear with Assassin filler across the Domination, Dueling and Mirage specialisations, with a greatsword and a dagger/sword set, Superior Rune of Infiltration and Relic of the Thief. Its engine is the interaction between Dune Cloak and the shatter skills: shattering with enough clones grants Mirage Cloak, Mirage Cloak grants an Ambush skill and recharges Mind Wrack, and Phantom Pain stacks a damage buff for every clone consumed. It is a beginner-friendly burst build with heavy defensive utility — blocks, invulnerability and teleports — that trades boon output and sustained damage for survivability and speed.

Build based on the Power Mirage setup on MetaBattle (rated Good; current for the 20 July 2026 patch), cross-checked against Snow Crows and GuildJen. The build template code was independently decoded and every trait and skill verified against the official Guild Wars 2 API. Runes and relics shift with each balance patch. Guild Wars 2 is the property of ArenaNet and NCSOFT. Last updated: August 2026.
