Hytale Chapter 1 releases on 12 October 2026. Hypixel Studios set the date on 24 September with a 47-second teaser called Hytale Chapter I, and about an hour later game director Simon put $15,000 on the first streamer who kills the chapter’s boss, the Gobliterator, under a set of rules that strip out almost every safety net the game has. You do not have to wait for October to play a large part of it — runes, goblins and gadgets: the Update 7 pre-release has been shipping Chapter 1 content in weekly parts since 3 September.

Chapter 1 is the first of Hytale’s Early Access chapters, the large content updates Hypixel plans to ship through Early Access. This page is for players who own Hytale and want to know what arrives on 12 October, and for anyone deciding whether Chapter 1 is the moment to come back. It collects the main things Hypixel has officially named about Chapter 1 so far — the date, what the teaser shows, the bounty and its exact wording, the runes, goblins and gadgets already in the pre-release, and the parts of the July reveal that are still missing from the patch notes. Where the studio has not said something, the page says so instead of guessing. Everything in Chapter 1 is still work in progress, and the patch notes say plainly that things will keep changing before release.

When is the Hytale Chapter 1 release date?

The Hytale Chapter 1 release date is 12 October 2026, in Early Access. The official Hytale account posted it on X as “Hytale Chapter I” with the line “Releases OCTOBER 12TH, 2026”, and the teaser’s YouTube description repeats it: Chapter 1 is coming to Hytale Early Access on October 12th, 2026.

What Hypixel has not given is a time or a time zone. Neither the X post, nor the video description, nor the Update 7 patch notes name one, so any launch hour you see quoted elsewhere is somebody’s estimate. Depending on the hour Hypixel picks and where you live, launch may fall on 11 or 13 October locally.

The date also settles the question the July reveal left open. On 16 July Simon estimated Chapter 1 was “within the next 2-3 months” and promised a precise date closer to release. From 16 July to 12 October is 88 days, which lands inside that window. The last time this studio gave a short-range promise, it held. In July Hypixel put spectator mode, hardcore mode, the mod browser and moving-platform tech “2-3 weeks” out; all four shipped in Update 6 on 27 August, six weeks after the reveal and complete. Chapter 1 is the first dated promise of this size, and so far it is on schedule.

What the Hytale Chapter I teaser shows

The teaser is 47 seconds long, with music by Will Bedford. Its description names the headline content: Hytale’s first handcrafted dungeon, the multi-phase boss fight waiting at the end of it, the goblin faction, the Goblin Breach world event, goblin gadgets and the new Rune Abilities system.

On screen, the teaser runs through a goblin workshop full of scrap and forges, a green portal opening over a goblin camp, a purple Void-soaked landscape, a party of four players crossing a cavern above a toxic green lake, a goblin hoard packed with loot, and finally a boss arena with a glowing face built into the wall, a large armoured goblin crackling with lightning, and a burst of fire before the end card: Chapter I, October 12th.

The description does not name the dungeon or the boss. The name Gobliterator comes from somewhere else.

The Gobliterator and Simon’s $15,000 bounty

The Gobliterator appears in exactly one official place: a post by Simon, quoting the release date on X about an hour after it went up. In full: “I’ll donate $15,000 to the first streamer who kills the Gobliterator boss in hard mode, no armor, no potion, no glitch, in hardcore mode (you can use iron weapons available in Exploration Mode). It must be streamed so we can watch the VOD; don’t cheat, bro.”

That gives six conditions you can hold him to:

  • only the first streamer to do it gets paid
  • no armour, no potions, no glitches
  • hardcore mode, the Update 6 world setting with limited lives
  • iron weapons from Exploration Mode are allowed
  • the kill has to be streamed, with a VOD to check it
  • “hard mode” is named alongside hardcore mode

Two points are open. Hardcore mode came with Update 6 in four variants — Permadeath, Three Strikes, Nine Lives and Soulbound — and Simon does not say which one counts. And a separate “hard mode” for bosses has not been described anywhere by Hypixel; the Update 7 notes do not mention one, so it is not clear whether Simon means a difficulty setting that arrives with Chapter 1 or used two words for the same thing.

The post names no deadline. Some outlets add a solo-only rule, a ban on Creative Mode shortcuts and unlimited attempts, possibly from replies under the post, but none of that is in the bounty itself. Food is the other grey area worth knowing about. Potions are banned outright, and Part 4 of the pre-release changed food in both directions: bread, popcorn and cheese now heal 10 per cent instead of 15, while taking damage no longer interrupts eating and you move faster while you do it. If the final rules count food as a potion, a no-armour hardcore kill gets a lot harder.

Whether the Gobliterator is the multi-phase boss at the end of the handcrafted dungeon is the obvious reading, but Hypixel has not said so in as many words.

What you can already play: the Update 7 pre-release

Chapter 1 is not arriving as one surprise drop. Since 3 September, Hypixel has been shipping it through the Update 7 pre-release, one part a week on the same patch notes page: Part 1 on 3 September, Part 2 on 10 September, Part 3 on 17 September and Part 4 on 24 September, the same day as the teaser. You opt in through the launcher under Settings, Pre-Release.

1
Open the launcher
Settings, then switch the branch to Pre-Release.
2
Visit the Forgotten Temple
Since Part 4, that is where Chapter 1 content starts.
3
Read the notes as a floor
A lot of the second wave is deliberately left out of them.

Part 1 called itself the first wave of Chapter 1 content and warned that the rune system in particular would change a lot before release. Back then most of it was reached through Creative Mode. Part 4 is the second wave, and it changes how you get in: you can now start Chapter 1 content by visiting the Forgotten Temple, or wait a few days and see what happens. The bed inside the temple can no longer be used, because whatever is happening there has made it too difficult to sleep. In the July reveal, the Forgotten Temple is also the hub for your progression through every Early Access chapter, changing as new ones arrive — which makes it the one piece of the first chapter that will still matter later.

The most useful line in Part 4 is a warning about the notes themselves. A lot of what you will meet in the second wave deliberately is not mentioned in the patch notes. So the absence of a feature from the changelog is not proof that it is missing from the build — only that Hypixel is not telling you about it yet.

Runes and abilities in the first chapter

The runestones in the pre-release

The Rune Ability system is the biggest new mechanic in Chapter 1 and the one that has changed most between parts. You collect runestones and slot them into the Runebinder’s Lattice — called the Runebinder’s Effigy until Part 4 — to add active combat abilities to your Avatar. Ability runestones decide what the ability is; modifier runestones change how it behaves.

After Part 4 there are seven ability runestones: Enrage, Fireball, Imbue Poison, Ground Slam and Wind Strike from Part 1, plus Chain Hook, which throws a hook that damages enemies and reels them in, and Charged Shot, a channelled bolt of frost that slows the target depending on how long you charge it. There are four modifier runestones, all new in Part 4: Expansion, which increases an ability’s area of effect by 100 per cent, Extended Duration, Fork, which splits projectiles, and Ricochet, which bounces them off enemies. Ability runestones are now Rare quality and modifiers Uncommon.

Part 4 also brought the first real numbers. Ground Slam hits harder — impact damage from 10 to 15, earthen spikes from 20 to 35 — but its cooldown went up from 14 to 18 seconds. Wind Strike went the other way: damage down from 14 to 8, cooldown down from 15 to 10 seconds.

Where the rune system is heading

The naming is not settled either. The poison rune is Imbue Poison in Part 1 and Poison Imbue in Part 4. Against the July reveal, which promised roughly six ability runes and a similar number of modifier runes, the ability side is already there and the modifier side is still thin. The July reveal also described where the system is meant to go: modifier runes that change an ability’s behaviour, elements that react to each other — soak a target with water, then shock it — combos between players, and fun interactions with the world, such as ice that can freeze water blocks or a fireball that bursts a poison barrel into a toxic cloud. Hypixel called those examples concepts, not a feature list. The stated aim is a system that promotes creativity: RPG-style depth without giving up the freedom of a sandbox, with multiple valid playstyles rather than one optimal build. Runeforging, the progression system built around collecting and crafting runes, was never part of Chapter 1, and enchantments are not planned for it.

Goblin gadgets, the goblin world and the Goblin Breach

The six goblin types

The goblins are the faction Chapter 1 is built around. Hypixel picked them because their tech is janky on purpose — in Simon’s words, they are just a fun faction to start Early Access with. Six of them are in the pre-release:

  • the Scrapper, a light melee fighter that swarms
  • the Miner, a heavy melee fighter with a leap attack
  • the Guardian, armoured and shielded
  • the Lobber, a ranged bomb-thrower
  • the Burner, armed with a flamethrower
  • the Feastmaster, the elite from the July reveal that calls in reinforcements

The Part 4 notes also mention Goblin Turrets and Goblin Boom Barrels, which your arrows can now set off.

The Goblin Breach and the goblin world

The goblins also have enemies of their own. Since Part 2, creatures aligned with the Void are hostile toward goblins, and in Part 4 the goblins got braver and stopped running from almost everything they meet. That matters for the Goblin Breach, the world event from the July reveal: a temporary portal that drops you into a fragment of Orbis the goblins have taken over, regenerated every time you enter, while a growing Void presence pushes in and eventually throws you out. Inside the goblin world, the July post lists a small set of activities to start with: predators you can track and trap, Void assassins that hunt you down, treasure chests that spawn enemy waves when you go for the valuable loot, and puzzles that lock off places you cannot dig into. The teaser description confirms the Goblin Breach for Chapter 1. The patch notes have not used the name yet.

Goblin gadgets and carrying

The goblin gadgets are all playable:

  • the Scrap Drill breaks several blocks at once
  • the Spyglass zooms in on distant events
  • the Scrap Glider lets you take to the skies
  • the Rocket Boots give you a double jump
  • the Hookshot, with its Hook Anchors, gets you around the world

Goblin gear is scrappy, and the studio says that is part of the fun. Gliding in general was reworked in Part 1: you dive and climb by pressing and releasing sprint, and the glider keeps your speed when you open it. New goblin building material came with them — Enkindled Copper, Enkindled Iron and Goblin Iron blocksets and a set of goblin decorations.

Carrying is the other new interaction. The July reveal showed certain blocks and objects you can pick up and haul — chests and explosive barrels to start with — which lets Hypixel add carry-only items too big or too heavy for your inventory, so getting them home may become its own little adventure. Part 4 updated the animations for carrying blocks. Picking up a downed friend is a separate idea, and Hypixel says that one is not part of Chapter 1.

Combat around them changed too. Sword, dagger, mace and battleaxe attacks are roughly 15 per cent faster, and non-elite enemies in Chapter 1 areas now flinch when hit, which interrupts their attacks.

What the patch notes still do not show

Put the July reveal next to four parts of patch notes and a handful of headline features have not been named in the changelog yet:

In the patch notes
  • Seven ability and four modifier runestones
  • Six goblin types, turrets and boom barrels
  • All five goblin gadgets
  • The Forgotten Temple as the way in
Not in the patch notes yet
  • The handcrafted dungeon
  • The multi-phase boss, by any name
  • The Goblin Breach, by that name
  • Boats and the shop goblin

The dungeon, the boss and the Goblin Breach are confirmed for Chapter 1 by the teaser description, so their absence from the notes is the deliberate silence Part 4 warns about. The machinery for the boss is visible, though: the Encounter Manager, which the July post describes as the system behind the first multi-phase boss fight, keeps gaining tools in the notes — encounters can now set a boss bar and force weather for everyone taking part. Boats, a basic boat Hypixel said its recent movement-system upgrades made easier to add, and the shop goblin have not been mentioned since July. If the weekly rhythm holds, a fifth pre-release part would land on 1 October, with room for one more on 8 October before release day.

The Hytale roadmap after Chapter 1

Chapter 1 is the first stop on the Hytale roadmap, not the whole of it. The July reveal placed several of its most-quoted features in later chapters. The crafting rework is planned for Chapter 2: Hypixel says it tore into the problems with the current crafting system, cutting the number of benches and shifting more of the work into in-world activities like wood chopping and metalworking. Companions are aimed at Chapter 2 as well — NPCs who move into your home, work on their own schedules and help build a village that feels alive, the cozy homestead side of Hytale the studio calls very important. Hypixel’s minigames are shown alongside Chapter 1 but run on their own timeline, which the July post put at two to three months. At that point there were 14 fast party micro-games, each lasting 60 to 120 seconds and used to push Hytale’s systems in crazy directions, with a dedicated Minigames tab planned and the code and assets behind them to be shared with the community. Runeforging, volumetric clouds and a reworked Hytale Asset Editor have no window at all.

The context for all of it is a line from Simon’s July post: to be transparent, there were not many reasons to come back and play Hytale yet. Since Early Access opened, Hypixel Studios says it deliberately held new content back to focus on the game’s foundations, after going back to a version of Hytale that was well over four years old. The original plan was to keep each chapter hidden until a proper reveal; given the project’s history, the studio decided that asking players to wait in the dark again did not feel right. Chapter 1 is the first large drop of new content since Early Access opened, and the first chapter the Hytale team has put a date on.

The groundwork under all of it is older news. Update 6 on 27 August delivered spectator mode, hardcore mode, the in-game mod browser and the player-collision tech behind moving platforms, which Hypixel Studios says should enable new and exciting types of parkour with swinging hammers and other dynamic features; our Update 6 breakdown covers what each of those changed. The engine is also gaining real transparency, which makes stained glass and window blocks possible, and the first flags for it are already in the pre-release notes for modders. WorldGen V2, the graph-based world generation that later dungeons and villages will be built on, has its own explainer. For the game as a whole, including price and whether it is worth starting now, the Hytale hub is the place to begin.

FAQ

When does Hytale Chapter 1 come out?

On 12 October 2026, in Early Access. Hypixel Studios announced the date on 24 September with the Hytale Chapter I teaser. No release time or time zone has been given yet, so the exact hour depends on an announcement that has not happened. Until then, any specific launch time you see is an estimate.

Is Hytale Chapter 1 out yet?

Not in the stable game. Chapter 1 releases on 12 October 2026. You can already play a large part of it — runes, goblins and gadgets — through the Update 7 pre-release, which has shipped Chapter 1 content in four weekly parts since 3 September. You opt in from the launcher, and the content is still changing from week to week.

What is the Gobliterator in Hytale?

The Gobliterator is a Chapter 1 boss named by game director Simon in his $15,000 bounty post on 24 September. It is not named in the teaser or the patch notes. The teaser shows a multi-phase boss fight at the end of Hytale’s first handcrafted dungeon; that the Gobliterator is that boss is the obvious reading, but Hypixel has not stated it directly.

What are the rules of the $15,000 Gobliterator bounty?

Be the first streamer to kill the Gobliterator in hardcore mode and “hard mode”, with no armour, no potions and no glitches, using iron weapons from Exploration Mode, on stream with a VOD. That is everything the post itself says. It names no deadline and no solo rule, and it does not define “hard mode”, so check for a follow-up before you plan a run.

How do I play the Hytale Chapter 1 pre-release?

Open the Hytale launcher, go to Settings and switch to Pre-Release. Since Part 4 on 24 September, you can start Chapter 1 content by visiting the Forgotten Temple. Keep a backup of any world you care about: pre-release builds change weekly, and Hypixel says the Chapter 1 content will keep changing until release.

How many runes are in Hytale Chapter 1?

Eleven in the current pre-release: seven ability runestones and four modifier runestones. The ability runes are Enrage, Fireball, Imbue Poison (Poison Imbue in Part 4), Ground Slam, Wind Strike, Chain Hook and Charged Shot; the modifiers are Expansion, Extended Duration, Fork and Ricochet. That count dates from Part 4 on 24 September and may change before 12 October.

Is the crafting rework part of Hytale Chapter 1?

No. The crafting rework is planned for Chapter 2, together with companions. Chapter 1 centres on the goblins, the first handcrafted dungeon and boss, the Goblin Breach, goblin gadgets and runes. The minigames have their own timeline, and runeforging has no release window yet.
