Level 60 example · 35 Arcane / 0 Fire / 16 FrostFOREVER snapshot 1.60.1.707557 November 2026 · not tested in game

This WoW Forever Arcane Mage build is a complete level-60 example with 35 points in Arcane, none in Fire and 16 in Frost. It selects Arcane Blast, Arcane Wrath, Missile Barrage, Presence of Mind and Arcane Power, then adds Frost control and Ice Block. Use the interactive talent calculator to inspect all 51 points and see what changes when you move one.

If you are new to WoW, a Mage deals damage by casting spells from a distance. Mana is the resource those spells spend. Arcane asks you to connect your next spell with your remaining Mana, a triggered effect or a safe opportunity to stand still. The Frost points provide another set of decisions when an enemy gets close.

This is an educational allocation checked against captured FOREVER talent rules, not a tested best build. Its structural snapshot is 1.60.1.70755. The separate ability reference retains its 70753 source label; a fresh comparison with Endgame Tools 70790 is recorded without replacing the original uncertain values. In particular, Arcane Blast ranks 2, 3 and 4 remain marked TEMP.

What playing Arcane Mage is like

You select an enemy, cast from a safe position and watch your Mana bar as well as the fight. More damage now can come with a resource cost that matters before the enemy dies. A channel is a spell that continues while you hold your position; Arcane Missiles and Evocation require different reasons for doing that.

  • Arcane Blast links an attack with a stacking resource decision. Its recorded complete ranks describe both a spell-damage benefit and an increasing Mana cost.
  • Arcane Wrath is a projectile whose recorded effect includes a contribution from maximum Mana. Maximum Mana and Mana currently left are different numbers.
  • Missile Barrage can change the next Arcane Missiles channel. React to an actual proc, which means an effect triggered under a named condition.
  • Arcane Power temporarily increases both damage and Mana cost. It needs enough resources and an opportunity to keep casting.
  • Ice Block is a defensive pause. While protected, you cannot continue attacking, moving or casting.

This example suits someone who wants to learn how spell choices, temporary effects and Mana fit together. It does not unlock Combustion, Heating Up, Cold Snap or Ice Barrier. The Frost Mage guide focuses on deeper Frost choices; the Fire Mage guide explains a different allocation built around Fire damage and Heating Up.

Arcane Mage talent calculator: try the build

The complete allocation is 35 Arcane / 0 Fire / 16 Frost. Those numbers count talent points, not spell ranks or buttons to press. The planner opens with all 51 points selected. Choose a talent, read a rank, then use plus or minus to change the allocation.

The construction proof checks point gates, required talents and rank limits. It shows that the whole allocation is reachable with the normal level-60 budget. It does not prove a fastest leveling route or a damage ranking. Legacy perks are outside these 51 points.

The Spell reference tab lets you compare recorded ability ranks. Some entries depend on talents or other conditions. A spell appearing in that reference does not automatically put it on your character's action bar. The static table below remains readable without JavaScript.

Why these Arcane and Frost talents are here

Arcane Blast and Arcane Wrath connect damage with Mana

The allocation selects Arcane Blast before Arcane Wrath because the recorded tree requires that path. The complete Arcane Blast rank-1 and rank-5 descriptions connect repeated casts with increased spell damage and a higher cost for Arcane Blast. The reference leaves ranks 2, 3 and 4 unresolved. Do not fill them by interpolating between the known endpoints.

At the recorded Rank 5, each Arcane Blast cast grants Spell Damage equal to 12% of your Intellect and increases Arcane Blast's Mana cost by 100%. This is the recorded endpoint, not a replacement for the three missing intermediate ranks. The recorded complete ranks describe a stacking effect lasting 18 seconds from its initial application, up to four stacks. That wording matters when comparing it with a guide that assumes every new cast refreshes a timer. This page does not infer a precise damage sequence, stack reset rule or cost formula for missing ranks. Read the rank and effect actually available on your character.

Arcane Wrath's recorded tooltip adds Spell Damage equal to 5% of maximum Mana. That is an additional contribution named by the spell; it is not a promise that 5% of your Mana becomes an identical amount of final damage. Target defenses and other modifiers still matter. Arcane Mind adds Intellect and an Arcane critical-strike damage bonus; that bonus is different from a critical-strike chance increase.

Missile Barrage, Clearcasting and a safe channel

At 2/2, Missile Barrage lists a 40% chance from Arcane Blast and a 20% chance from the other named trigger spells. Its effect reduces the next Arcane Missiles channel duration by 50%, reduces its Mana cost by 100% and fires missiles every 0.5 seconds. A shorter channel still needs a safe place to finish.

The captured trigger list includes Frost Blast. The newer 70790 comparison omits that name while retaining Arcane Blast, Arcane Wrath, Fireball, Frostbolt and Frostfire Bolt. The calculator labels the version difference; it does not turn both lists into one supposedly current tooltip.

Arcane Concentration at 5/5 separately gives a 10% chance to enter Clearcasting after a damage spell hits. Clearcasting reduces the next damage spell's Mana cost by 100%. These are conditional effects, not a guarantee that the next channel is free after every cast. Improved Channeling protects the named spells against losing casting time when you take damage; it does not protect you against every form of interruption or make dangerous ground safe.

Arcane Power, Presence of Mind and the Frost escape tools

Arcane Power creates a short burst-damage window: a period in which you can concentrate stronger attacks. Its captured effect lasts 15 seconds and gives 30% more spell damage while spells cost 30% more Mana. Spending it with an almost empty Mana bar can limit the attacks you can actually finish. Check the encounter, your resources and whether you will need to move before choosing that window.

Presence of Mind makes your next Mage spell with a casting time less than 10 seconds instant under the recorded tooltip. It affects the next eligible spell, not every cast during Arcane Power. The allocation selects both talents, but their interaction does not establish a universal opener or a simulated timing rule.

The 16 Frost points take Improved Frostbolt, Precision, Frostbite, Improved Frost Nova, Permafrost and Ice Block. Frostbolt's casting improvement supports a Frost fallback. Precision names hit chance for all spells. Frostbite and Permafrost concern qualifying Chill effects; they do not make every Arcane spell freeze or slow. Ice Block provides protection while stopping your own actions. This allocation leaves Cold Snap and Ice Barrier unselected.

Arcane Mage rotation and spell priority: choose for the situation

A spell priority is a decision about what helps next. A fixed rotation is an ordered sequence; it can fail when a target dies, an effect does not trigger or the floor becomes unsafe. Choose a situation below to connect your spells with what is happening.

One enemy and room to cast

Start where you can finish casts without pulling another enemy group. Compare your current Arcane Blast effect, known rank and Mana with the time the target is likely to remain alive. Arcane Wrath and Arcane Missiles belong to the same toolkit, but this page does not claim that a single repeated sequence is optimal for every fight.

Watch for Missile Barrage or Clearcasting instead of assuming either is active. When Missile Barrage is available, the next Arcane Missiles channel has its recorded benefits. Check that you have enough time to channel before an enemy reaches you or movement becomes necessary. Cancelling a channel to avoid danger can be a better decision than completing it.

Consider Arcane Power when you can keep attacking and afford its increased Mana cost. Presence of Mind can change one eligible cast. Neither button removes the need to check target health, your position or the Mana left after the burst of attacks. This is a learning priority, not a verified raid damage script.

You must move or an enemy reaches you

Move out of danger first. Blink helps reposition under its own restrictions; check where it will take you. Counterspell addresses an eligible enemy cast. This allocation does not take Improved Counterspell, so do not add that talent's extra silence to the ordinary spell.

Frost Nova can freeze nearby enemies in place, with damage able to interrupt its effect. Freezing a target in place and slowing its movement are different forms of control. Some targets may resist or ignore a control effect. Improved Frost Nova changes the cooldown, while Permafrost modifies qualifying Chill effects; neither guarantees that a boss will stay where you want it.

Ice Block is the selected emergency defense. Its recorded protection also prevents movement, attacks and casting. Use the time to understand what happens when it ends. It is not a way to keep channeling Arcane Missiles while immune. A defense that stops your damage can still be the right choice when continuing to attack would get you killed.

Several enemies are grouped

Arcane Explosion is centered on the caster. Being close enough to hit enemies also exposes you to nearby attacks. Compare that position with a spell placed farther away before assuming an area attack is safe. Avoid hitting enemies your group is keeping under crowd control, which means temporarily restricting what they can do.

Blizzard and Flamestrike remain separate recorded class spells; this allocation does not take Improved Blizzard or Improved Flamestrike. A spell's presence in the reference is different from selecting its improving talent. More targets do not justify spending Mana blindly or breaking a controlled enemy free.

Mana, equipment and preparation

Mana management: maximum Mana, remaining Mana and regeneration

Maximum Mana is the size of your resource pool. Remaining Mana is what you can spend now. Regeneration is the process of recovering it. Arcane Wrath's reference to maximum Mana does not mean you recover that much after each cast, and a larger pool is not the same as cheaper spells.

Arcane Meditation at 3/3 allows 50% of your Mana regeneration to continue while casting. That is not 50% of your whole Mana bar per second. Magic Absorption at 1/2 separately adds resistances and a conditional recovery when a spell is fully resisted. Do not plan as if every enemy attack triggers it.

Drink between fights when needed and tell your group before the next pull, meaning the start of the next encounter. Evocation is a Mana-recovery channel; look for a window in which standing still is safe. Its recorded duration and effect do not guarantee a full Mana bar in every situation. Chance-based Clearcasting and Missile Barrage make it especially useful to react to the effect you have rather than the effect you hoped for.

Arcane Mage stat priority: understand the item first

Compare spell-damage bonuses, Intellect and relevant hit and critical-strike properties. Stamina supports your health. A weapon's melee damage is not its spell-damage bonus; a larger staff model does not establish a stronger Arcane build. Critical-strike chance and critical-strike damage describe different benefits.

The selected Precision talent improves spell hit chance by its recorded amount. That is not a sourced universal hit cap or a reason to ignore a target's level and defenses. Arcane Impact, Arcane Mind and Arcane Instability each describe their own effects; read them separately instead of treating every Arcane talent as the same stat increase.

This guide does not provide simulated stat weights, a best-in-slot list or an in-game damage ranking. Those require equipment, target and encounter assumptions that the talent table alone cannot supply. Use the item properties to make a comparison you understand before copying a Retail or Classic gearing list into FOREVER.

Mage Armor, buffs and defensive resource costs

Mage Armor is a spell buff, separate from the armor on an item. Its recorded description permits some Mana regeneration while casting and lists magic resistances. It also limits you to one type of Armor spell at a time. Read the known rank instead of assuming Mage Armor, Frost Armor and Ice Armor all stack.

Arcane Intellect increases Intellect; its spell ranks have different recorded amounts. Apply preparation buffs before combat when appropriate. They are not buttons to insert automatically between every two damage spells. Mana Shield absorbs its named physical damage while draining Mana in the captured reference. This plan does not select Arcane Shielding, so do not claim its reduced drain as a benefit of the current allocation.

Polymorph and Remove Lesser Curse have jobs beyond damage. Read their target and effect restrictions. A spell that removes a Curse does not remove every poison, disease or harmful Magic effect. Recognizing a dangerous enemy cast or leaving room for a defensive response can matter more than one extra attack.

Race choice: Mana, critical strikes or a timed spell bonus

A race is the character identity you choose before assigning these talent points. In the checked FOREVER export, Alliance Mage options are Human, Gnome and Skyborne (High Order); Horde options are Orc, Undead and Troll. These are the export's recorded class combinations, with numbers that can lag live tuning. The following examples show different kinds of benefit, not a best-race ranking.

Mage raceRecorded racial abilityWhat it means for your choices
GnomeExpansive Mind adds 5% maximum Mana. Eureka! lists a 10% cost reduction for 8 seconds.A larger Mana pool and a short cost-reduction window are different benefits. Read the Mage-specific Eureka! wording note below.
HumanRuthless adds 1% critical-strike chance to spells and attacks.A passive chance increase still does not guarantee a critical hit or a Missile Barrage proc.
OrcBlood Fury increases Spell Power by 10% for 15 seconds, with a 2-minute cooldown in the export. This is an activated temporary bonus; check whether you can keep casting during its window.

Mage wording note: the export flags a difference in whether Eureka!'s Mage tooltip explicitly says non-periodic. That scope remains a source note rather than a guessed rule for every damage effect. Expansive Mind's maximum-Mana benefit does not refill an empty Mana bar, and Blood Fury's Spell Power bonus is not an identical percentage increase to final damage. Check the recorded effect that matters to you before comparing appearance, faction or a copied race ranking. FOREVER racial export and source notes.

Professions for an Arcane Mage

No profession is required to select this allocation. Tailoring makes cloth equipment and bags; Enchanting adds equipment bonuses and obtains materials by disenchanting eligible gear. Alchemy offers Mana potions and other consumables. Choose the items you want to make and compare material costs before expecting a damage advantage or easy profit.

The separate FOREVER Tailoring guide, Enchanting guide and Alchemy guide cover trainers, recipes and materials. Profession leveling is a separate decision from distributing these 51 talent points.

Leveling and changing the talent choices

A new character cannot select the whole allocation at once. Under the captured budget, Arcane Power needs 30 Arcane points before its own point. Spending into Arcane first can therefore reach that 31st Arcane point at level 40. Spending Frost points first delays it. Ice Block likewise requires its recorded Frost point gate; a label saying 35/0/16 does not provide a complete leveling order.

The construction proof is a valid way to assemble the finished example, not a claim about the fastest leveling path. Your known spells, survival needs and group can change which benefit is useful earlier. Start empty in the calculator to inspect those decisions, then reload the example when you want the original 51 points back.

Changing this into Fire or deep Frost takes more than renaming it. Combustion, Heating Up, Cold Snap and Ice Barrier have their own gates and, where recorded, prerequisite talents. The planner checks those dependencies when you edit points. Saved choices are your experiment; this guide does not promise they are a tested improvement.

Arcane Mage build questions

Does this use Retail Arcane Charges or Arcane Barrage?

This allocation follows the captured FOREVER tree and spell records. It does not import a Retail Arcane Charges resource or an Arcane Barrage rotation. Missile Barrage is the named FOREVER talent that changes Arcane Missiles; similar names in another version do not establish identical mechanics here.

Is Arcane Blast fully verified?

No. The recorded rank-1 and rank-5 effects are available, while ranks 2, 3 and 4 retain their original TEMP markers. The talent node also shows the uncertainty rather than fabricating one complete tooltip. Later comparison text is kept as version evidence. Do not read a blank rank as zero damage or an interpolated estimate.

Is this the best Arcane Mage build for raids or PvP?

It is an explained learning example. The allocation's gates and 51-point budget are checked, but its damage and survival have not been tested in game or simulated. Raid, dungeon and PvP choices depend on the actual encounter, equipment and opponents. This page does not turn a structurally legal build into a proven performance ranking.

Sources, versions and uncertain values

The guide uses only FOREVER material. Talent structure remains the captured 1.60.1.70755 snapshot; the spell reference retains its separately labelled 1.60.1.70753 layer. A fresh Endgame Tools 70790 comparison identifies changes including Missile Barrage's trigger wording and previously incomplete descriptions. These layers are labelled rather than silently merged.

The original global registry still contains 64 TEMP cases, including 16 Mage cases. Some concern abilities outside the selected allocation. Small question-mark icons explain uncertainty on hover, keyboard focus or tap. Unknown values remain unknown, and recorded tooltip numbers do not represent an equipped character's guaranteed damage.

? Mage effect values · 16 original TEMP cases

Version comparisons remain separately labelled. These are the Mage entries from the unchanged 64-case research registry. Unresolved values remain empty.
