WoW Forever Engineering guide: first gadgets, parts and Mining
Start Engineering in WoW Forever: a skill 1–75 crafting plan, parts to keep, gadget requirements, Mining synergy and Reagent Bot utility.
Read guideEngineering is a primary profession in WoW Forever for players who want extra tools to use. This guide covers trainers, component planning, early gadgets and a reference leveling route through 225. Before choosing it to sell gadgets, inspect the user requirements: many devices require Engineering on the character using them. A craft that looks useful to everyone may have a much smaller customer base.

in WoW Forever: what Engineers build
Explosives, goggles, guns, ammunition and utility devices make up the profession's toolkit. Some recipes also need an anvil or tools such as an Arclight Spanner. Icy Veins' Forever overview lists these uses and restrictions.
Our default partner is . Metal and stone feed directly into your components. Save some bag or bank space for parts before starting: Engineering often asks you to make something that becomes an ingredient in something else.
trainers and rank requirements
A profession trainer raises your skill cap; making another gadget does not. Learn Journeyman Engineering once you have 50 Engineering and character level 10, Expert at 125 and level 20, and Artisan at 200 and level 35. The respective caps are 150,225 and 300. Train before your current cap stops awarding progress, and budget separately for new trainer recipes.
Capital city Engineering trainer locations
The Forever trainer reference lists these Apprentice starting points:
- Stormwind: Sprite Jumpsprocket in the Dwarven District.
- Ironforge: Jemma Quikswitch in Tinker Town.
- Orgrimmar: Thund in the Valley of Honor.
- Undercity: Graham Van Talen in the Rogues' Quarter.
Do not assume every capital city has the service. Darnassus and Thunder Bluff are missing from that capital trainer list. For a low-level character, reaching a city with a trainer, supply shop and anvil together can be more practical than using a remote teacher with no nearby tools.
Starting zones, Journeyman and Expert Engineering
Bronk Guzzlegear is at Steelgrill's Depot in Dun Morogh; Mukdrak is in Razor Hill. Tinkerwiz in Ratchet is another starting option. For Journeyman, examples include Lilliam Sparkspindle in Stormwind and Nogg in Orgrimmar. For Expert, check Springspindle Fizzlegear in Ironforge or Roxxik in Orgrimmar. Read the rank offered, not just the name Engineering above an NPC.
Artisan Engineering and later training
The same reference lists Buzzek Bracketswing in Gadgetzan, Tanaris, for Artisan training. You need character level 35 for the Artisan rank, even though its Engineering skill requirement is 200. Reaching the profession threshold first does not remove the character-level requirement. Make the journey when you can learn the rank and have enough money for the recipes you actually plan to use.
Tools and supplies before you level
Buy a Blacksmith Hammer and keep your Arclight Spanner. These are reusable tools, so check your bags before purchasing a replacement. Many Engineering recipes also require an anvil. A missing tool or crafting station can look like a material shortage until you inspect the recipe's requirements.
Engineering supply vendors sell items such as Weak Flux. They do not replace Mining, cloth drops or every other supply shop. Compare vendor prices with Auction House listings before buying basic supplies from another player. A character leveling Engineering entirely with purchased parts needs to watch those small markups as well as the price of metal.
Blasting powder and metal parts are separate stock
Keep Rough Blasting Powder, Heavy Blasting Powder and Solid Blasting Powder with the parts that will consume them. A stack of powder is not finished output if your next bomb needs it. Silver Contact uses a Silver Bar, while copper bolts and an Unstable Trigger belong to different component chains; more advanced crafts can need several component types together.
Use one material list for the final product. If you already own a component, subtract it from the amount you need to make. When buying parts instead of raw metal, compare the complete cost of both options. Do not add the finished part's price to its raw inputs unless you really intend to buy both.
Apprentice : an opening route to skill 75
The following starting plan is based on Icy Veins' Forever leveling reference. The batch sizes include components needed later; they are not all expected to award skill points.
| Stage | Recipe | Why you make it |
|---|---|---|
Start to about 30 | Prepare about 60 for bombs | |
About 30–50 | Prepare about 30 for bombs | |
At 50 | Keep this crafting tool | |
Continue toward 75 | Uses powder, bolts, and |
Do not sell the powder or bolts just because they have stopped helping your skill. For this opening plan they are the supply for your next batch. Conversely, do not make another full batch merely because an old checklist says so if you already have enough components.
Choose for the devices you will use
After making a new tool, read its complete tooltip, place it somewhere you can reach, and try it in a situation you can control. Check cooldowns, restrictions and what happens to its effect when a target takes damage. A device left in the bank cannot help the character you chose Engineering for.
For fall protection, inspect the Parachute Cloak's activation and cooldown before relying on it. For a grenade, check whether follow-up damage breaks its control effect. These engineering devices solve different problems; putting them on your action bar helps only if you know which situation each one fits.
Keep consumables you intend to use separate from stock intended for sale. If you repeatedly consume your leveling output, include that in your material plan rather than buying another stack unexpectedly before a group run.
recipes and component planning
For each final craft, expand its components into raw inputs. If you own the bolts already, count them once. If you need to make them, count their metal cost instead. Adding the finished component and its ingredients to the same shopping list doubles the apparent requirement.
Later choices may depend on more than metal prices. Compare the complete input list, including cloth, gems and vendor supplies. A cheap bar does not make a recipe cheap when a scarce gem dominates its cost.
specialization: Gnomish or Goblin
The checked community overview describes Gnomish and Goblin Engineering choices at character level 30 and Engineering 200. Before committing, inspect the particular device that interests you and the current quest requirements. Choose around what you want to make and use rather than a blanket claim that one specialization wins every activity.
Gnomish Engineering: control gadgets and reusable tools
The specialization recipe reference includes Gnomish Shrink Ray, Gnomish Battle Chicken, Gnomish Death Ray, Gnomish Mind Control Cap and Gnomish Rocket Boots. Those are examples to compare, not a claim that they all do the same job or become available together. Inspect the crafting skill, specialization and user requirements of the particular item before choosing Gnomish Engineering for it.
Goblin Engineering: inspect the explosive you want
Goblin Engineering includes options such as Goblin Sapper Charge, with its area-damage role. If you choose Goblin Engineering for explosives, check the device's cooldown, any effect on the user and its equipment requirements before spending materials. A name such as Goblin Rocket Helmet is not enough information to judge whether it fits your play. Compare complete tooltips rather than treating aggressive utility as an automatic win over control gadgets.
Engineering skill, specialization and character level
These are three different requirements. Having enough Engineering skill to make a component does not necessarily let you craft a specialization item, and learning a schematic does not remove an item's user restrictions. The early trainer route can be followed before making a specialization choice. Leave the choice until you know which engineering items justify it for your character.
, Repair Bot and camping
The Reagent Bot offers nearby players a reagent vendor. That is a convenience rather than another combat stat buff. Check whether the group needs supplies before using the camp slot; the official camping rules describe how contributions are shared.
The later Repair Bot adds equipment repairs to the reagent service. The camping item reference lists skill 140 to place it and skill 300 for the Anarchist's Workbench, a later crafting station. Check the group's existing campsite contribution before replacing a useful machine.
If crafted weapons and heavy armor are your real goal, compare before committing. Engineering's attraction is the devices you will use, not a promise that every item is an upgrade or profitable sale.
Leveling from 75 to 225
These further milestones use the same Forever leveling reference. Train the next rank before its cap, keep components for later rows, and check each recipe in your client.

215–225 | Alternate and |
The checked reference does not yet confirm a 225–300 recipe route. This guide stops its prescribed sequence at 225 rather than labeling a Classic shopping list as a tested Forever route.
items for other players: SAF-T and schematic costs
Some Forever products broaden the customer base beyond Engineers. The SAF-T Copper Bomb item has no Engineering requirement on its user tooltip, while its crafting recipe requires Engineering 55 and an anvil. Being able to use the finished item is different from being able to manufacture it.
That distinction is useful when planning a sale or supplying friends. Check the finished item, not just the schematic, before promising that a non-Engineer can use it. Then inspect the actual effect: the Copper Bomb's short control effect breaks on damage. It is not an unrestricted replacement for class abilities, and producing it does not guarantee a buyer or a profit.
Azeroth Commerce Authority schematics
The Commerce Authority reward reference lists Engineering schematics bought with Merchant's Favor. An Azeroth Commerce Authority camp visit is therefore different from a normal profession-trainer visit. Horde players should check the corresponding Durotar Supply and Logistics camp and its actual stock. Confirm the schematic, currency cost and required skill before collecting supplies for a specific reward.
certification and the Engineer title
The Certification item requires 300 Engineering. It unlocks the Engineer title across the account, but a character displaying the title must itself have 300 Engineering. This is an end goal rather than a requirement for early bombs, and it should have its own budget instead of consuming money reserved for tools or training.
Legacy milestones and advanced crafts
Blizzard's Legacy system explanation includes tradeskill milestones at 150,225 and 300 for non-gathering primary professions. They give you useful stopping points when deciding what to work toward next. After 225, verify any continuation against the current recipe window: do not automatically copy Classic skill ranges or a beta shopping total into a supposedly tested live route.
Later plans may involve Dense Blasting Powder, Mithril Bar and other components beyond the opening copper stage. Work backward from the exact gadget you want. Mining a large stack of ore is only useful preparation if it supplies those recipes; buying an early component in bulk does not substitute for the different parts of a later craft.
