Black Desert Online progression tracker
A 219-step Black Desert progression tracker — 163 once per family, 56 on every character — plus what HYPERBOOST hands you free, and what most guides still get wrong.
Black Desert Online progression tracker
Black Desert splits everything you do into two piles: things you do once per family, ever, and things you repeat on every character. Mix them up and you either waste weeks redoing account-wide work, or you skip stats an alt will never get back. This tracker keeps the two apart — 163 + 56 steps, checked off in your browser, nothing sent anywhere.

The tracker
The widget sits below. It runs entirely in your browser, saves to that browser, and exports a CSV you can keep. There is no account, because there is nothing to log into — see the FAQ for why importing your progress automatically is not a thing anyone can honestly offer.
Tool loads below. Progress is stored locally on this device — export a CSV if you want a real backup.
Progress Tracker
Post-HYPERBOOST · data verified 4 Aug 2026, Journal + level cap corrected 13 Aug · NA/EU PC. Split strictly by scope: once per Family vs every character.
Why a tracker splits family from character
I have around 400 hours in Black Desert and I never got far. Not because the combat is hard — it is the best in the genre — but because the game never tells you which of the hundred things in front of you is load-bearing and which is scenery. You do a thing, something goes up, and you have no idea whether you just did it for this character or for the account. That is the gap this exists to close.
Most Black Desert advice is written as one long list, and that is the problem. Roughly two thirds of what a new account has to do is once per family — coupons, adventure logs, the free gear pipeline, contribution points, node investment, every life skill level. Do it on one character and the whole account has it. Doing it again on an alt is pure waste.
The other third resets with every character you make. Your level, your class kit, your inventory slots, your crystals, your gear. And buried in there are the two easiest stats in the game to lose:
Once you see the split, a lot of confusing advice resolves itself. “Do the Chenga Tome questline” is a once-per-family job — but the tome is a single physical item, so only one character can wear it at a time and you shuttle it through storage. Both halves of that sentence matter, and guides usually give you one.
What a new account gets for free right now
HYPERBOOST went live on 30 July 2026. It is not an event and it does not expire — it is a permanent catch-up track, and it is the single biggest reason to start now rather than a year ago.
750
Gear score, free
5
Free PEN Blackstars
305
AP for free armor
+10
AP and DP, family-wide
The chain runs: graduate a season character with a full PEN Tuvala set the pass simply hands you, take five PEN Blackstar weapons from Olvia Academy and the Challenge tab, craft three Sovereign weapons from them, collect six PEN Kharazad accessories from Alustin in Velia, then clear four Black Shrine bosses for the Slumbering Origin armor. None of it costs silver.
Which leads to the one rule that governs early Black Desert in 2026: do not spend a single Cron until that list is exhausted. Buying a Gem of Twilight runs to roughly 17.7 billion silver. Olvia Academy gives you one.
The order that actually matters
Progression is gated, not free-form. Half of what looks available on day one is locked behind something else, which is why the tracker greys out blocked steps instead of listing them as choices.

Olvia Academy
Closes 5 Nov 2026

305 to 315 AP
Step three carries a real deadline. Olvia Academy runs in semesters, and Class 3 closes on 5 November 2026 — course progress and academy passes reset with it. The family rewards you have already claimed stay claimed, but anything unfinished goes back to zero.
Step four is where accounts get permanently damaged. You receive exactly five Blackstar weapon boxes and you need a specific mix: two mainhand, two awakening, one offhand. Pick three of the same type and you have stranded a Sovereign weapon with no way back.
Level 56 to 61: quest or grind
There are two routes past 56, and the right answer changes twice. The reason is mechanical: quest experience is a flat percentage of your current level requirement, so it scales with the curve. Mob experience does not. From 58 the requirement doubles every level, and that is exactly where questing overtakes grinding.
The item that makes the middle stretch work is the Chenga Tome, and it is worth being precise about what it does: +30% on quest-reward combat experience only. It does nothing for mobs. Quest experience is a separate pool that no combat buff touches, and the tome is the only thing in the game that raises it.
Which sets up a swap most players never make. The Adventurer’s Tome slot holds one item. A PEN Undying Crow’s Insignia also gives +30%, but on mob kills. So you wear the insignia while grinding to 58, swap to the tome for 58 to 61, and swap back at 61 when quest experience dies. Wearing the wrong one is not a small loss — it is the whole slot.
What most guides still get wrong
Black Desert is mid-overhaul, and the guide ecosystem has not caught up. These are the ones that cost real money or real time:
True in 2026
- Gear score target is 750
- Convert Slumbering Origin at PEN, not TET — nine free enhancement levels
- All eleven life skill levels are family-wide
- Preonne accessories are life skill best-in-slot
- Crons do not fully protect accessories
Widely repeated, wrong
- “Naru gear from the main story”
- “Gear score target is 730”
- “Camping gives +80 contribution points”
- “Manos is life skill best-in-slot”
- “Dark Rift is daily”
The camping one is a good illustration of how these spread. The quest gives 80 contribution experience — the accumulating bar, not the points. It is a rounding error. Somewhere that got written as “+80 CP”, which would be an enormous reward, and it has been copied ever since.
One more that matters for planning: the level cap moved to 70 on 13 August 2026 and goes to 75 on 8 October. Every English source repeats the Korean dates, which are a day earlier. The EXP rework belongs to the second step, not the first: Pearl Abyss puts the “EXP structure revamp” on 8 October, so do not over-invest in reaching 62 before then.
Things that expire, and things that do not
Most of Black Desert waits for you. A handful of things do not, and they are worth knowing before you plan a month around the wrong one.
Olvia Academy is the real deadline. Class 3 closes on 5 November 2026, and unfinished course progress resets with the semester. The family rewards you have already claimed are permanent, so this is a deadline on finishing, not on keeping what you earned. Coupon codes are the other genuinely dated item — the current batch runs to late November and hands out an unusually large pile of Cron stones.
Then there are the changes that will quietly invalidate advice you read elsewhere. The level cap moves twice this autumn, and the entire experience curve is being reworked with it. Life skill gear gets unified into a single loadout per skill on 2 September, which is a reason not to make a large life skill gear purchase in late August. Elvia’s Realm, Black Shrine light orbs and Altar of Blood’s abyssal illusion are all announced for removal with no date given — so any guide leaning on them is on borrowed time without knowing it.
The tracker carries live countdowns on the dated items and marks the undated ones as watch-list entries, which is the honest way to handle a game that reshapes itself on a weekly patch cycle.
Black Desert progression questions, answered
Can a tracker import my Black Desert account progress automatically?
No, and be careful here. There is no official Black Desert API and no OAuth for third parties, so any site offering to log in and sync your progress has no legitimate way to do it. The public adventurer profile exposes levels, gear score, contribution and life skill ranks — but never quest or checklist state.
What should I do first in Black Desert Online in 2026?
Enable two-factor authentication for the Old Moon Treaty Token, a permanent account-wide +5% item drop rate. Then turn on every quest type in the quest log, because the default filter hides a large part of the progression chain. Both take minutes and neither is signposted in game.
Is Black Desert free to play?
Not on PC in the NA/EU region — it stays buy-to-play with no subscription. The free-play news from March 2026 was console only. Editions go on deep discount often, so check the current price before paying full; the free HYPERBOOST track hands out far more power than any edition does.
Should I quest or grind from level 56 to 61?
Grind 56 to 58, quest 58 to 61, then grind from 61 onward. No 56 to 58 questing guide exists anywhere, and past 61 quest experience drops to 0.021% per quest. The Chenga Tome is effectively mandatory for the questing stretch — without it you will not reach 61.
What is HYPERBOOST in Black Desert?
A permanent free gear catch-up track added on 30 July 2026, not a limited event. It hands a new account a full PEN Tuvala set, five PEN Blackstar weapons, three Sovereign weapons, six PEN Kharazad accessories and four armor pieces. Pearl Abyss counts that ladder as 582 at graduation, then 616, 654 and 694 — the free pipeline ends at 694. The advertised 750 needs the extra quest lines and enhancement support listed on top of it. It is progression-gated rather than time-limited.
What is done once per family versus every character?
Coupons, adventure logs, the free gear pipeline, contribution points, node investment and all eleven life skill levels are family-wide. Levels, class kit, inventory, crystals and gear are per character. The two easiest to miss are +1 DP at level 56 and +1 AP at level 60, both per character.
What is the most expensive beginner mistake?
Collecting three of the same Blackstar weapon type. You get exactly five boxes and need two mainhand, two awakening and one offhand for three Sovereign weapons — a wrong third pick strands one permanently. Close behind: spending Crons before the free pipeline is exhausted.

Written from about 400 hours of play, with every number verified against community references on 4 August 2026, post-HYPERBOOST. I fixed the Emma Bartali’s Journal objectives on 12 August 2026 and the level-cap section on 13 August, both against the official patch notes. Where sources disagree I say so rather than picking a side; where nothing is published — grinding experience per hour, the gear score formula — I say that too. Black Desert patches weekly and the level cap changes on 13 August and 8 October 2026 — parts of this will age quickly.
