Gears of War: E-Day is an origin story. Fourteen years before the first Gears of War, you play Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago on Emergence Day, the day the Locust Horde breaks out from underground.

The campaign works solo or with up to four players online. Horde Siege, the wave survival mode, comes back with bigger maps and four-player squads in four classes — Assault, Marksman, Medic and Breacher — and several squads can team up on shared objectives and world bosses. Versus is back for player versus player.
Premium Edition owners and Game Pass subscribers with the Premium Upgrade have been playing since 1 October. That is why Steam already shows reviews before release: Very Positive, 686 positive against 113 negative (2 October 2026). The full launch is 6 October at 15:00 UTC.
