Between expeditions you build up your Mountain Hall: rooms, smelteries, ore mines, kitchens and more dwarves. Then you choose where your dwarves dig and watch them work on their own, until the torch burns out. Everything depends on that torch. Go straight for the gold nearby, or push deeper for something better before the light dies.
There are no monsters and no combat, just planning, digging and upgrading. The demo follows a public playtest in August, and the developer says player feedback shaped the changes. A small hotfix, v0.71, followed on 25 September.
King in the Mountain is made by Milo Panta, a solo developer from Smederevo in Serbia, and published together with Human Qube Games. His site also offers supporter packs that put a custom dwarf into the game.
What players say
Seven Steam reviews so far, all positive. Players describe it as an ant farm with a well-paced incremental loop, satisfying to watch and more active than most idle games. Several call it cozy and hard to put down.

Yes. The demo has been free on Steam since Wednesday, 23 September 2026. It follows a public playtest in August, and a small hotfix, v0.71, already added an explosion animation and more information at the end of the demo.
