FAQ

Demos, answered

Which demos end up on this page?

Every demo from our weekly demo video, which goes up on YouTube every Tuesday, plus every demo we reviewed ourselves. We pick the demos that landed on Steam the week before and are worth an evening. It is a pick, not a full list of every demo on Steam.

What does the Crit Pick score mean?

It is our score out of ten for the demo we played, not for the full game. A demo only gets a score when we played it properly and wrote a full review. Everything else on this page is a short profile without a verdict.

Why do most demos here have no score?

Because they come from our weekly video, where we look at what is in each demo, who makes it and how players reacted. That is enough to tell you whether it is worth a download, but it is not a review, so we do not put a number on it.

Are all of these demos free?

Yes. Every demo here was free on Steam when we wrote about it. Developers sometimes take a demo down before launch or after a festival, so if a link stops working, the demo has most likely ended.

In what order are the demos listed?

Newest first, by the day the demo came out on Steam, not by the day we wrote about it. Reviewed demos sit in the same list as everything else, so an older demo with a score can appear below this week's fresh ones.

How often does this page change?

Every Tuesday, when the new demo video goes up. New demo profiles appear at the top of the list on their own, and a demo gets its Crit Pick score on the card as soon as we publish a review of it.

How is this different from the weekly releases page?

This page is about free demos you can play right now. Our releases this week page covers full games that come out this week, and the release timeline covers every dated game we track.

Guildrun demo review: the demo is excellent and one thing is missing

A dozen runs through the free Steam demo: Guildrun lands Slay the Spire's relics and TFT's items, but hero ranks decide too much of a run and there is no trait system. 7.5/10.

The Guild – Europa 1410 demo review

The bones of a good medieval sim are here, but the demo keeps you fighting its menus — and fans won't find the old Guild feel yet. A cautious 4/10 first look.
