Permafrost is story-driven open-world survival on a near-future Earth locked in endless winter after the moon shattered. You play solo or with up to three friends.

You explore frozen cities and wilderness, survive storms and frostbite, hunt, scavenge, craft and build a network of shelters. A dog companion follows you and helps on your trips.
It launched into Steam Early Access on 9 October 2026. The developers plan at least 12 months in Early Access. The one-hour playtest ran from 2 to 6 October and has ended.

Current fixes and remaining problems
The 11 October hotfix improves Steam co-op invitations: the joining player must first launch the game and wait in the main menu before accepting a Steam chat invite or using Join Game.
Hopes and Dreams can still be blocked in older saves if you collected its glitched recording before the hotfix. The developers are working on a repair for a later patch. The latest fix does not mean every existing save is repaired.
