Pupperai No. 013

Ground Not rideable Day & night
◇ Rarity · Common — "Zealous Alpha"

Pupperai is the Ground Pal at No. 013 — a dog with a stick in its mouth and strong opinions about where you are standing. It is one of two brand-new Pals Pocketpair dropped at the very front of the 1.0 Paldeck, and it is the single most convenient catch in the game: it spawns close enough to your starting point that you can have one before you have a base.

Partner skill
Best Boy — while Pupperai is in your party, it increases the player's melee weapon damage by 10–35%, scaling as you condense it. It does not stack.

Pupperai spawns in the Windswept Hills, and it spawns immediately — walk down from the Hill of Beginnings where you wake up and you will meet one within a minute or two. Day and night, no time gate.

Two things it is not: it does not spawn in the World Tree, day or night; and there is no Alpha Pupperai in the field, despite the Paldeck title reading "Zealous Alpha" — that is flavour, not a boss flag. It can also be hatched from eggs produced by other Pals.

Stats & how they vary

Work speed100

Base values before IVs, passives and condensing. Bottom third of the roster across the board — exactly what you expect from a Pal you can catch at level 2. The number that matters is not on this list: Running Speed 400, Sprint 600. Pupperai is fast. It closes, it bites, it is somewhere else.

Type matchup · Ground

Weak vsGrass hits Ground Pals for extra damage. Bring one to fight a Pupperai; do not bring Pupperai to fight one.

Base stat shape — a slight lean into attack, and nothing else to write home about.
IVsHidden HP/Attack/Defense rolls, locked in when you catch or hatch it — worth up to +30%. Catch a few and keep the best.
Passives0–4 traits (e.g. Swift, Ferocious, Lucky) — the biggest controllable swing, inherited through breeding. 1.0 adds powerful World Tree passives with trade-offs (e.g. +50% attack for weaker defense).
Mutation 1.0Breeding can rarely hatch a mutated Pal with higher stats and a unique passive skill. Deluxe Vegetable Cake raises the odds.

CondenserFuse duplicates for ★1–★4: +5% per star, up to +20% to all stats, and a stronger partner skill.

Work & drops

Work suitabilities
Gathering Lv 1Lumbering Lv 1Transporting Lv 1

Three suitabilities at Lv 1 is a lot for a Pal available at the spawn point. This is the opposite of Gumoss's philosophy one slot down the dex: Gumoss does one job and never leaves it, Pupperai does three jobs adequately and drifts between them. For a first base — where you have four Pals and every one of them needs to be a generalist — that flexibility is worth more than focus. Replace it the moment you have specialists.

Drops
Bone

Bone is worth more early than it looks: it is the gate on Nails, and Nails gate most of the first tech tier. A Pal that reliably drops Bone and spawns fifty metres from your first base is a renewable resource.

Partner skill: Best Boy

Most early partner skills hand you a tool. This one just makes you hit harder.

What it doesA flat 10% boost to your melee weapon damage at level 1, rising to 35% at five stars. No activation, no cooldown, no resource.
Melee onlyNothing for your bow, nothing for your handgun, nothing for Pal damage. Early on — when you are hitting things with a stone club because ammo is expensive — it is free permanent damage. The moment you switch to guns it does nothing at all.
Condense it10% is barely felt; 35% is the difference between three swings and two. Since Pupperai spawns in stacks next to the start, five-starring it is unusually cheap — you will trip over the duplicates.
StackingIt does not stack. One in the party is the whole effect.

Active skills

Lv 1Double Fang · Ground · power 40 · cooldown 2 — bites rapidly in succession.
Lv 2Fierce Fang · Ground · power 50 · cooldown 2 — lunges at the enemy and bites.
Lv 7Stone Blast · Ground · power 80 · cooldown 4 — a barrage of stones forward.
Lv 15Persistent Slash · Ground · power 90 · cooldown 4 — exclusive to Pupperai. Charges at full speed, delivering two consecutive slashes with the wooden stick held in its mouth.
Lv 22Stone Cannon · Ground · power 120 · cooldown 8 — digs up a boulder and hurls it.
Lv 30Sand Tornado · Ground · power 200 · cooldown 12 — two sand tornadoes, launched together.
Lv 40Rock Lance · Ground · power 400 · cooldown 20 — a sharp rock spear under an enemy.
Lv 50Sand Twister · Ground · power 500 · cooldown 24 — multiple tornadoes, spinning in circles.
Lv 70Rocky Impact · Ground · power 600 · cooldown 30 — shakes the ground and lifts a massive boulder.

Persistent Slash at power 90 on a 4-second cooldown is a genuinely efficient early skill — and it is the only place in the game that stick does anything.

How to get more Pupperai

You almost certainly do not need to breed this one — it spawns at the start in numbers. But if you want a specific passive set, these pairs produce Pupperai.

EasiestPupperai + Pupperai — breeds true, and both parents are free at the spawn point. The one you want for passive fishing.

The story of Pupperai

The Paldeck notes that Pupperai territorial disputes begin with a staredown and end in a single, quick strike — and that training them to "stay" is risky business, because the "go" command triggers that same attack instinct.

Which is a very polite way of saying: this dog has one setting, and the word "go" is the trigger. Everything about the design follows from that line — the stick, the stare, Persistent Slash being a single committed charge. It is not aggressive. It is decisive, which is worse.

Field notes
— from the log of a Pal keeper

Day 1. Woke up on a hill with nothing. Walked down. A dog stared at me. I stared back. I lost.

Day 2. Caught it. It has a stick. It will not give me the stick.

Day 6. Put it on Transporting. It transports. It also gathers, and cuts wood, and does none of them especially well, and I do not care, because there are only four of us.

Day 11. Realised my club hits harder with it in the party. Have been carrying it everywhere since. Best boy, as advertised.

Day 19. Five-starred it without trying. There are so many of them.

Pupperai, answered

Where do I find Pupperai in Palworld?

In the Windswept Hills, right at the start — walk down from the Hill of Beginnings and you will meet one within a minute. It spawns day and night. It does not spawn in the World Tree, and there is no Alpha version in the field.

What does Best Boy do?

While Pupperai is in your party it increases your melee weapon damage by 10% at level 1, up to 35% fully condensed. It does not stack, and it does nothing for ranged weapons.

Is Pupperai good?

Early, yes — three Lv 1 work suitabilities (Gathering, Lumbering, Transporting) and a free melee buff, available before you have a base. Its stats rank in the bottom third of the roster, so it is a Pal you use for the first twenty levels and then replace.

What is Persistent Slash?

Pupperai's exclusive active skill, unlocked at level 15. It charges at full speed and lands two consecutive slashes with the stick in its mouth — 90 power on a 4-second cooldown.

What does Pupperai drop?

Bone (100%). Useful early, because Bone gates Nails.

How do I breed Pupperai?

Pupperai + Pupperai breeds true, and duplicates are free at the spawn point. Clovee + Rushoar, Clovee + Cremis, Pupperai + Nox, Tanzee Ignis + Lifmunk, Tanzee Ignis + Jolthog and Tanzee + Pengullet also produce one.
