WoW Forever: what a temporary economy hold means
WoW Forever can restrict trading, mail, guild banks and the Auction House during an RMT review. Here is what Blizzard says happens next, and what remains unclear.
If WoW Forever suddenly restricts your trading or Auction House access, Blizzard's new Temporary Economy Hold may be the reason. It is a temporary restriction during an investigation into suspected real-money trading. It is not, by itself, a confirmed rule violation or a permanent account penalty.

Which parts of the economy can be restricted?
Blizzard names four features: direct trade, mail, guild banks and the Auction House. The hold can apply when an account is suspected of selling illicit gold or receiving the proceeds.
The aim is to stop suspicious gold moving between accounts while Blizzard investigates. That makes this different from a warning about a future policy: the community post says players have already started encountering the restrictions.
For you, the practical consequence is that several ways of moving items or gold can become unavailable during the review. The announcement does not describe a general trading shutdown for everyone playing Forever.
What happens if the suspicion is wrong?
Blizzard says the restriction will be removed automatically if its investigation finds that the activity was legitimate. It also acknowledges that false positives may happen while the new system is adjusted.
A hold alone does not leave a permanent strike on your account. Further account action can follow if Blizzard establishes involvement in real-money trading.
That is a useful distinction when discussing another player's restriction, too. A screenshot of a hold does not prove that the account bought gold. The investigation and its outcome are separate from the temporary restriction.
How long does the review take?
The announcement gives no fixed review time or guaranteed deadline for lifting a hold. It also does not disclose the amounts, transaction patterns or other signals that trigger one.
Claims that a particular tip, trade or transfer is automatically safe would go beyond the information Blizzard has published. So would promising that every hold ends after a certain number of hours. Those are the questions the announcement leaves open.
Does this apply to every version of WoW?
The post describes the system in WoW Forever. Blizzard says it intends to bring these measures to other versions if they prove successful. That condition matters: it is not confirmation that the same restrictions are already active everywhere.
